I usually buy my games when there $20 or lower. Just to save money.

There is no need to own all consoles unless you have nothing to do with your time. Just pick the best one for you. For me its the ps3. And since I have a job I wouldn't have enough time for 2 or more consoles anyway.

For me it's the missus, and my conscience.

The missus would veto any additional console purchase (I sold her on the PS3 on the basis of Singstar + Singstar store, Buzz, Blu-ray and birthday (with no big party)). If there were any really compelling Wii titles it's possible I could convince her on the basis of Wii Fit and it's relative cheapness, though it'd need the added support of one of my son's really wanting a Wii. Problem there is there are no compelling Wii games (for me) and my sons are both hyped about getting the PS3 that they will be satisfied for quite some time. 360 wouldn't get a look in because there is nothing to put forward as a selling point for her that the PS3 doesn't already have.

Then there is my conscience. Gaming beyond a certain number of hours in a week is purely time wasting, and I can't in good conscience waste the kind of time you'd need to waste to really justify having multiple consoles.

I have all these grand plans to play a bunch of games once I get my PS3 (all exclusives BTW: Valkyria Chronicles, R&C ToD & aCiT, Uncharted 1&2, LBP, Heavy Rain. So there is another reason I've gone with PS3) but I really don't know if I'm going to get through more than 2 or 3 games per year, if I'm lucky. So that tiny list of exclusives may well last me 2 or 3 years. Getting a second console would be madness. Then there are (only on) PC games that I've yet to get really started on: playing NWN2 online with my brother and we've managed to get about 3 hours of gameplay in the last month; have barely begun Throne of Bhaal; haven't even bought Age of Empires III yet.

Why?

money.  Pure and simple, it just isn't in the household budget.   and its not really the cost of the console itself, as much as it is the cost of the games to build up a decent library to warrant the expense of each console you choose.  Then add on extra controllers/peripherals and or online costs and you are racking up a bunch of expenses.

So, unfortunately...choosing one is the answer and hoping that it gets supported well enough that there's a great library for it.  Even then, a new baby goes through an asston of diapers...and that depletes the game fund for even the one console  =(

Finally...there just isnt enough time in the day.  TBH, I don't even need a huge library of games for the console I have because there wouldn't be the time to play them all anyways.

You've gotta figure that this is not a concern for any of the consoles at this point. The only console that was in doubt was PS3, and every objective observer will agree that this doubt has been well and truly obliterated. Even some of the haters will reluctantly accept that you can no longer trash the PS3 library (though not all).

Yeah, same as many people here said, money.

I hate MS and currently dislike Nintendo very much. Plus I enjoy PC gaming more than my PS3.
