Forums - Microsoft - Sunday times Confirms New Motion Sensor Camera For 360.

I think this is a mistake to launch this so late in the generation (although we could be looking at a 10 year generation this time). No pervious games will support it obviously, MS has very little internal development to support this with and 3rd parties will almost wholly ignore it unless the adoption rate is enormous. After all HD games are made for PS360 not just 360 so to be worthwhile to include such a radically different control scheme there would have to be a huge chunk of 360 owners with it. At least 30% - minimum.

In the short term at best EA may port over Boom Blox and Ubisoft some of their party games (enjoy!). This will not be anymore successful than Eyetoy on PS2 was.

Also, I would prefer to hold something (like a wiimote or something) if playing tennis or golf instead of nothing at all - that would just seem weird.

I managed to miss this in this morning's papers... anyway, hopefully this does not become the sole focus of the console

I don't think this will be an issue since they rely mostly on third party games.  As has been pointed out many times on the interwebz.

Yes, but if they start touching games like Mass Effect or Gears of War, I will not be happy

I don't know. Seem like a great addition to me. Imagine playing Gears as you do now but with the option to dodge by quickly leaning your upper body left of right. A lot of gamers already do this on a subconscious level.

I am not sure, when I play I just lie back, and if that was causing Marcus to dive around it might be quite annoying. I want the controller to still be the primary method of control

this has the potential to be done a lot better than the wiimote.

Imagine playing halo 4 with a contrller but throwing a grenade with your hand. Or using melee with by punching.

Also, they coudl release peripherals on a game basis. So it won't be stuck to "how do we make this game work with the wii mote" but instead it will be "how do we make a peripheral that works with this game."

Of course, this may just be imaginary and may not even come out. I'm just saying...anyone shutting this idea down is a 360 hater at heart...

@ kowenicki

The dumbasses obviously didn't read the article, or have any clue that the xbox has had a camera for a couple years now.

This is going to be a big thing, but I am still convinced when MS said they were going to break the bank, they meant more than this.

Realistically this toy would probably not be directed at their core demographic, but at a secondary demographic that has willingly purchased the Nintendo console. Further more to support this device all Microsoft would have to do is go with their strength. Which has always been strong third party support.

The concept has real potential if it were marketed properly. Which is too older adult, very young children, and new parents. Nobody wants to hand grandma or a three year old kid a controller. With this you do not. You just turn the machine on and let them do whatever the game tells them to do in front of the television. This could actually be a great boon for educational software. Just imagine a Dora The Explorer game where the kid just points at a box.

Would this be good for Microsoft absolutely, because due to the existing nature of their machine they can satisfy two demographics within one box. Which even Nintendo has not managed. Their console was too weak to appeal to the hardcore market. Microsoft could have a hardcore machine that can also be used for family gaming.

Honestly some of the comments in this thread shows how hypocritical gamers can be towards their own systems, pretty much like sports fans of their favorite team. Just like the Eyetoy & the Wiimote, these control scheme are depend on the software implementation.

...Right now the only difference I understand from this and the Wiimote is that you don't have too hold anything in your hand. You can do everything with this that you can do with a Wiimote...

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

Not interested in the camera. This will be a major part of the MS E3 conference, but lets hope for something good in the actual game arena.

For once we agree... I hope that this wont be MSs main atraction. I do hope that we will see some great new games, possibly new IPs :D

expect youd have to take your hand off the controller, wind up......im sorry but in theory it all sounds really cool but for twitch games ala FPS its just not going to get any better than controller or KBM.

I think the wii let down a lot of people with lack of games and cartoony games with no substance....lets see if MSFT delivers.

Not everything. Id like to see near perfect aiming on the screen, for an fps.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

hmmmm... Is microsoft going to give use toy guns & swords also? The camera could detect them, and do the motions in the game.
I think I saw a demo for it somewhere.
