and whats wrong with Linux? There are some amazing Sun, Linux, and Unix platforms that destroy everything that Microsoft and Apple has created. I'm still waiting for Microsoft to give me that ability to freely have 8 separate desktops at the same time so I can separate games, media, software, etc to different screens like I have done on my Linux distros. Microsoft is only 15 years behind this innovation in OS mechanics, that isnt to bad is it? Anyways this benchmark is based on decoding H.264 video which is very interesting.

because i7 is designed for Windows 7 performance, it wasn't designed to zomg encode H.264 at blazing speeds, and I'm sure you know that video cards can encode 264 media faster than CPUs already anyways?

 

edit: ssj, it's based on transcoding, which is encoding, not decoding.

 

edit2: forgot to mention, since the Cell is very good at calculations, which is what encoding is about, so if you program the Cell to do that specific task, it'd be fast for sure, why would people be surprised by it?

I know its encoding... I just didn't feel like defining terms past what I needed. Also the i7 wasn't designed for Windows 7... it was designed to be a fast processor using a different architecture. It really has nothing to do with OS used.

That doesn't really have anything to do with this, but I believe (don't hold me to this) that saves are stored on flash memory.

Insert a USB thumbdrive, and go to your saves section. You will be able to copy the saves to the thumbdrive.

Do that, just to be safe, in case save files are stored on the hard disk.

I have a feeling that while Core i7 runs better for W7, it is because Microsoft optimized W7 for Core i7.

And for a basic answer, encoding = turning a file of one format into another. decoding = taking formatted file and turning it into a more understandable format for a program to use. basically opposite of encoding.

Codexs are useful because they tell multimedia software how to decode a specific file type into something it can play.

I know, this was pretty obvious on why the CELL won out on this. If this was a test on what opened a piece of software fastest the CELL would have lost.
