Yeah, I've come up with a plausible prediction. You're just trying to get on the PS3 is doomed bandwagon. There's not much we can do about it now except talk about it back and foirth all night. By 1-1-2010 after GT5 and XIII release later this year, over 4 million PS3s will have been sold in Japan. If it doesn't happen, I'll give you half my vgchartz money on that day and if it does give me half of yours.

I don't jump on any bandwagon... I'd just on the Wii is doomed bandwagon the same as I would the PS3 is doomed bandwagon which is to say I won't and will never do that.  >_> You were saying between 5 and 7 million because of some software that isn't that big of a deal in Japan... it'll boost a few weeks of hardware much like I showed you Monster Hunter did for PSP but it didn't push 1 million consoles like you said it gave a boost of 60k which dropped until it was back to normal.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite moved several million units in Japan and for longer than a one week period.  Freedom Unite which is still selling PSPs and Crisis Core were the big reasons PSP came back to life in Japan last year and pretty much beat both the DS and Wii in Japan last year until DSi was released and yet the PSP continues to sell far more consoles each week in Japan than does the Wii because of the Monster Hunter Freedom Unite effect.

Also, I didn't see you agree to put your money where your mouth is on the topic, so I suggest you just step off.

*I make an absurd claim* *I lower my claim so I can make a bet* *I pretend to be superior to look cool in front of other people*

Jesus you must not know how to game sales/console sales lingo your posts make no damn sense.  Monster Hunter the game sold millions of copies in Japan, it didn't sell millions of PSP system units, it improved sales of the PSP for a few weeks and then it went back down to normal each time a Monster Hunter came out so the only definitive numbers you can considder Monster Hunter moved was the boosted sales over normal sales which was about 60k PSP units the first week and then dropped back down.

Will Final Fantasy XIII sell 1 million copies (game not console) most certainly, will it boost PS3 console sales to that lofty 5 to 7 million you claimed by summer 2010 most certainly not, just know that even PS3's biggest game that is very popular in Japan MGS4 hasn't even sold a million or push console sales THAT much.

FF hasn't lost any steam. Both FFXIII and Versus XIII will achieve 3 to 5 million sales in Japan on PS3 this gen and GT5 will achieve 2 million + sales in Japan on the PS3 this gen. There's no doubt about it. And that means there will be a bump to at least 5 million PS3s sold in Japan following the release of FF Versus XIII there's really no doubt about it.

FFVII sold 3.97 million in Japan, X sold 3.0 million, and both of the first GTs on PS1 and PS2 sold over 2 million in Japan.

XIII is not VII... it never will be...

yes VII sold nearly 4 million X sold just 3 million and XII hasn't even sold 3 million woo! that's keeping that train chugging along...

You have statistics and facts going against you here... you haven't even come up with a plausable prediction yet...

FFVII has not sold 4 millions in Japan and FFX has not sold 3 millions.

Original FFVII sold only 3.2 million in Japan. Original FFX did 2.3 million and original FFXII did 2.3 as well. FFXIII is expected to do the same. There is no decline in sales of the series in Japan. These 4 millions for VII and 3 for X came from all of the additional re-releases these games got, and for some stupid reason vgchartz combines all these versions into one. Famitsu and Media Create dont do that, I dunno why vgchartz does.

Final Fantasy has lost some steam during the PSone -> PS2 transition. But right now, FF series is as popular as it was in 2001.

So what if you account for PS2 -> PS3 what is there to say the same transitional decrease would happen as you brought up.  To sell sell 2.3 million on PS3 would mean it'd have to sell to over 2/3 of the PS3 owners in Japan which is a statistical improbability.

I am expecting a loss in sales compared to FFX/FFXII. But only a 10% loss. So basically I am expecting the game to sell 2.1m in Japan.

And I wouldnt be so sure about 2/3 attach rate being statistical improbability, Final Fantasy X launched on a userbase of 4.5m PS2 in Japan and went on to sell 2.3 millions of copies and it sold extremely fast (1.45m first day, 1.75m first week) - that's 50% attach rate right there. MGS4 launched on a userbase of 2.1m PS3 in Japan, went on to sell 700k copies, once again - it sold extremely fast, that makes it 30% attach rate. Not to mention that it is not far behind MGS2 and MGS3 sales in Japan. And this is Metal Gear Solid, not Final Fantasy.

We'll have to wait and see. PS3's userbase will certainly limit FFXIII's sales potential in Japan, but I think you are mistaken in thinking that it will limit it too much.

Hrm where did you get the userbase figure for FFX sales if you don't mind my asking?  Plus 2.3 would be more of a final sales do you have sales numbers for say launch week and the first 3 months?

It's not that I'm really apposed to it's sales potential I don't think it'll sell quite as well as it has in the past and will not be the system seller it's being made out to be, it'll move consoles but he was talking millions and I can't list a single game that sold a million consoles by itself.

http://garaph.info/index.php

I can't give a direct link, it doesnt work. Just proceed to the japanese hardware graph generator, chose Famitsu data (MC wasnt around back then), FFX launched on 2001-07-19.

Regarding its console selling power, that totally depends on Sony and their actions. Previous FF games moved 100-150k hardware on their launch, the XIII demo moved 60k PS3s. But of course it isnt going to sell millions of PS3s, whoever made that claim doesnt have a clue.

Without Monster  Hunter Freedom Unite do you really think the PSP would have sold 12 million units by this point in time especially when it looked like the handheld was dead in the water before MHFU release?  I think not.

And I haven't changed my prediction at all.  At least 4 million PS3's will have sold in Japan following the release of GT5 and FFXIII.  5 to 7 million PS3's will have sold in Japan following the release of FF Versus XIII.

PS1 and PS2 were market leaders and thus lasted 10 years.

PS3 is last place...........thus breaks up the winning formula

FFVII has not sold 4 millions in Japan and FFX has not sold 3 millions.

Final Fantasy X has sold 3.02 million copies in Japan.  Look a this page (http://vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=759&region=All) and then find the part where it says sales history.  Then look for the column heading Japan.  It says FFX sold 1,906,152 copies in its first week in Japan and 3.02 million ltd.

If you round FFVII's sales figures upwards by the slightest of margins, then it has sold 4 million copies in Japan.  Look at this page (http://vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=756&region=All), follow the same steps as with FFX, and you'll see that FFVII sold 2,025,834 copies in its first week in Japan and 3.93 million copies ltd.  Virtually 4 million copies.

Didn't realize people were still posting here. It looks like the comments improved.

One thing to remeber Rattlesnake is that Final Fatasy doesn't seem to move units outside of Japan. In Japan, both FF7 and 10 increased sales, but was for a short time (usually 3-4 weeks) with it's peak being week one. Expect that when FF13 comes out for everyone to praise the PS3, only for hardware sales to come down a week or two later. It will not move the system past the 360.
