Threatening to ban people who talk about doing naughty things doesn't mean they will stop doing naughty things.

It just means that they will stop talking about naughty things.

THIS!

THAT!

He is absolutely right, unfortunately his conclusion has absolutely nothing to do with my point.

I am not suggesting VGC could stop piracy, I am suggesting that it should prevent itself from ever being used as a forum to promote it.

Starcraft, as its been stated over and over already, this site is NOT being used to promote piracy. Anyone who tries to link to pirated software/roms will be banned. Anyone who speaks in anything other than the most general terms about how to pirate software will be banned. If this isn't enough for you, maybe joining another forum is in order, as saying those who admit to something illegal should be banned based on some obscure moral premise (apparantly determined by your interpretation of this site's direction) makes as much sense as banning people who admit to doing illegal drugs or marrying someone of the same sex where it's prohibited by law.

Starcraft, I don't think you've thought this through. If this gets implemented, you're looking at discussing games between yourself and twesterm all day. Everyone else will be gone.

Great answer. This is what I've been saying during the entire thread, but apparently he still thinks that VGC has a banner that says "Click here for how to get all your pirated games!!!"

This is sorta on topic.

Piracy isn't whats 'ruining' the industry. Nothing is ruining it. There are alot of crappy games out there because shovelware only has to sell a few thousand copies to make a profit. Awesome epic games on the other hand require almost impossible perfection to sell enough to make a profit let alone good profit. Companies are selling mediocre cheep games just to support those epic flagship games. It's economics.

Nintendo understands this to the extreme and has for the most part taken the bottom long tail of the game industry by storm. They've perfected the shovelware to mid level game. The Wii is basically supporting the great epic level games for the PS3/X360. That won't last for long though. Eventually MS and SONY will try to reclaim a piece of that part of the market. And maybe Nintendo will come out with more than a small handful of good games for a change.
