Forums - Website Topics - Can we ban confessed pirates and modders?

I personally don't think that VGC should moderate people for illegal things they do that don't affect the site directly. If someone admits to doing drugs should I then ban them because those are illegal as well?

This is the worst thread in VGChartz history.

So many things wrong with this thread.

"I don't have time to play video games anymore, but if I did, I would definitely choose the PlayStation 3 instead of the 360" - President Barack Obama

I dont normally pirate, and I do purchase titles as often as I can.. but games in the middle east can cost upto $80-90+ which is ridiculous, so while it is wrong, its also unfair that companies overprice certain markets. Overall its a lose lose situation, dev loses sales, retail lose sales, consumers get crappier games. And since gaming should ideally be for all age groups, I can understand when younger age groups tend to pirate- since they dont have access to the funds adults do.

Banning mods/thief's is simply draconian. If someone wants to thump their chest.. good for them.. move along..

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

i think you guys got the concept of used games wrong. A person buys the disk, and he can do what he wants with it. If he gives/sells it to someone else, he doesn't have it anymore. One person still owns the game. He will buy a new one. Its like used cars. By your logic they are taking money from the automotive industry, because if they couldn't buy used cars, new drivers and people who need/want a differrent car would buy new cars.

"I'm not a pirate," is all that's needed to achieve what I am aiming for. Prevent VGC from influencing the spread of piracy negatively.

Are we going to save the rain forest, cure cancer, and prevent global warming too?

Sorry I hate to break it to you, but banning a few people here is not going to affect piracy in ANY way. They are not spreading anything to a significant degree.

Take a look at some piracy forums that have over 400,000+ members. MS knows about those forums and either can't do anything about it, or doesnt care enough to do anything about it. Do you honestly think banning 5-10 people here will make a difference? There will still be millions around the world who do it every day.

As far as being "spread"... there is nothing to spread. Everybody already knows about piracy. It's not like it's a rare thing and it's hard to do.

Maybe we should also have a background check when someone signs up? Don't want any members of terrorist organizations finding their way in. Imagine the damage they could inflict on the gaming industry, starting from VGChartz.

And perhaps administer a drug test while we're at it. We don't want any crack addicts posting as well (unless they're funny).

sure pirating is bad... so is discrimination... and that's what this thread is about.

Well since it has been brought up...
I've pirated literally thousands of dollars worth of PC games. I play NES, SNES, GBA, N64 and PS2 games... on my PC. None of this is *illegal*, seeing as i don't distribute the games. I can only think of one case (Oblivion) where I would have bought the game instead. I buy tons of games, and pirates others that I don't think are worth buying. I don't brag about it, and have never mentioned it before now. Add me to ban list if this is bannable offence.

I'm pretty sure that's still illegal in Canada.  Unless you own them anyway.  I know it is in the US.
