So basically, you thought Call of Duty 2 was a really good game, even better than a bunch of PS3 titles you've never played? You also completely ignored the Wii. Nothing released on the 360 yet compares to Super Mario Galaxy.

This game came out in 05 montana, it was a launch game I beleive.

Hundreds of games are way better than this game now.

But if you played it then it would have blown you away is my point.

I mean the Xbox was always playing catch up to PS2.

I just reckon we have a role reversal now.

Think about it, Xbox was supposed to be better than PS2, PS3 supposed to be superior to 360.

Yet games look no better or worse on either one.

So that was the essence of my thoughts.

Define catchup, really. Game quality? The console with the lowest userbase is not going to have the best games.

Kowenicki: And they're all PC games too.

Ok then I will site one example Fallout 3.

No trophies inferior graphics.

Now thats a recent game.

So trophies to counter acheievements.

BR to be the new dvd format.

PSN to counter live.

that is my point.

Fallout 3 has trophies

I agree

Xbox 360 DEFINEs this generation & DEFINES quality in online, gaming & interactive entertainment!

Xbox FTW!

I would say it has heavily influenced this generation. Here are the most significant ways:

1) The ease of development between the Xbox 360 and PC lead to multi-platform games being the standard in the West and increasingly so in the East as well.

2) It has heavily influenced online console gaming (Xbox Live Arcade, DLC, movies, friends lists, achievements, etc).

3) It lead the way with multiple SKUs that offer varying levels of hardware configurations.

Those are things off the top of my head but I'm sure it's also responsible for bringing so many FPS games to consoles (any third-party that makes them seems to always bring up the Xbox 360).  Or the fact that we're seeing more and more multi-platform JRPG console games.

@ Leoj
Are you sure about that I remember reading somewhere it did not.
Maybe I have the wrong game.

Leo is right... Fallout 3 has trophies

Depends on how you view standard bearer. Cause I don't know how you mean it?
In terms of meeting the old values absolutely.

In terms of being a good for business of gaming. No. Not that I say it would be doing bad, but the Wii is definetly being more healthy and bringing gaming to the forefront of media.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

In quality, that's subjective. In amount, the PS3 will never have as many games as the 360, but quantity =/= quality. As far as graphics, that's subjective too, although I'd rate Killzone 2 Console Graphics King ATM, but again, that's just me.

Basically, you asked an interesting question, but it can only be answered subjectively, not factually, unless you mean game amount.

I believe he is refering to trend setter, in which he has a point although for HD gaming only, the console that is really setting the trend is the Wii. The 360 however introduce many idea into gaming mainstream, there have been attempt to do just about everthing MS has tried to do with the 360 before but none of them have succeeded in embedding them into the userbase as a given. Stable online gaming for a console, unified achievement, voice chat for console gaming etc etc.

I really don't see it as being the standard bearer for anything.

Neither the console itself nor its game library appeals to anyone except for mostly core and hardcore gamers. It doesn't even have so much as one game that has the mass appeal of Wii Play, Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, SSBB, NSMB, Nintendogs, Pokemon, Brain Age, Mario Kart DS, etc.

That being said, I'd say that the standard bearers are the Wii and DS as they've managed to encompass all demographics and reach virtually every single gamer out there. Without the Wii and DS, the video game industry would probably be on the verge of another crash.

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

I still don't understand what the OP is trying to ask. He is being incredibly vague. If you are talking about trend setting, maybe, although I'm sure the wii will be universally recognized as the biggest trend setter for this gen. You can bet all the new consoles that come out with have some kind of motion sensing technology built into them from now on.
