Forums - Sony - Well, here it is. Heavy Rain gameplay from Pre E3 press event.

Did this game land on it's belly or what?

Not only was the gameplay even worse than I expected, it doesn't even look very good.

Some people here are just trying to save face by still defending it (while in reality you feel shocked inside). But after reviews start coming out you'll pretend you never cared about it even to begin with.

This game is going to be great.

That said, the early graphics were a total lie, this is nowhere near "CGI-Quality"

In fact, many games this gen look better than this game, graphically, on both HD consoles.

Dissapointment for a lot of graphics fans.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Interesting videos.

Looks like the game will be split up into these different sections, switching between characters, much like chapters in a book.

I wonder how far you can actually 'bend' the story, or how much freedom the player is given overall, but I'm still very much interested in this game.

Play Indigo Prophecy. It will be exactly like that. Great, great game, and believe me, it will be exactly like it, in most ways.

Yea, this game will be good, judging from the looks so far.  Graphics are, imo, pretty damn good.  I think maybe some people had weird expectations.

Whats with the people wanting to turn this game into a shooter?!? Not enough on the market for you to chose from?

The game will be STORY and CHARACTER, driven... not body count driven.... sheesh

If it's coming out in 2009, there's not really that much time left. Certainly not enough to have any significant changes to the way it plays in this video. Get ready for more timed button press excitement!

Hopefully the story's at least as good as Indigo Prophecy's (which was great).

I liked Indigo Prophecy and I'm sure I'll like this one, but anyone thinks that Heavy Rain is going to be "innovative" after watching this video is fooling themselves.

THIS GAME WILL BE JUST ANOTHER GAME... B_E_L_I_E_V_E

It's coming out in 2010, he mentions it at the end of the GT interview.

How so? It's the same engine as "The Taxidermest" scene was from 2008. Watch the Nightclub trailer, that's the same engine....

Sheesh, people must like ignoring evidence...

What are you saying? Do you claim that the graphics in that trailer are as good as you...expected them to be?

looks good. I dont see why ppl are complaining.

I actually wasnt anticipating this title at all, but it looks pretty interesting to me now.

I think some of the ladies and gentlemen here are misunderstanding what the main focus of Heavy Rain is!!! The graphics, which IMO look freaking amazing, are great, as are the animations, but the focus or heart of the game lies in puting you, the player in these intense life or death situations, that is part of the reason why the game has no GAME OVER!!! If you're in a strugle for your life and you miss a punch here and there, you don't tell your attacker timeout and rinse and repeat!!! In this game the QTEs act as every single one of those punches and actions which in the consequences of the game could mean life and death!!! That's why it's vital to get each action right, because once you're into the game and the more you start caring about these characters, those life and death situations are gonna become, more and more intense, because you're gonna care if your character lives or dies and you'll strugle and fight to keep them alive!!! That sort of imersion is what makes Heavy Rain so special, I hope I helped some of you understand the focus of the game a little better, besides it's still early, the game will improve it's graphics and animations as developement continues, I have faith!!!

Its a button command game...no different than DDR. Basically, it is a simulation/movie of terrorizing people without true adventure gameplay. There is no way a person can feel immersed in the game, besides for the fact that they are responsible if the person gets hit.

Are you serious, it is only button command when fighting.  Everything else is manual, you know -- walking, investigating, things like that.  Only in desperate situations do button commands come up.

Oh, yeah I missed that 2010 bit.

That's too bad - holiday 2009 would have been a good time to have something like this out.

Still, at this stage (after the time they've already spent in development) I'd bet they aren't changing much design-wise.  If this is like Indigo Prophecy (and I think anyone who's played IP and seen these vids will agree it is), then they are going to have their hands full making sure all the story branching is tested and solid.  Probably will have some performance improvements, but what you saw in those vids is what you're going to get when this ships.

IP had a fair amount of replayability due to the branching story, so this format isn't, strictly speaking, a no-replay value adventure game.  That's good.
