Forums - Microsoft - Need some help the Picture on my 360 Elite is Fuzzy HDMI in use.

I'm playing Mass Effect and I notice that my picture is fuzzy is there any way to fix it? It's already installed from the HDD but should I try playing it from the HDD instead of the disc or does it play from the HDD automatically? Im playing on a 52-inch HD1080p-  Bravia,

Thanks

Have you done all of these steps:

  1. Is the dashboard fuzzy?
  2. Tried another disc game
  3. Tried a Live game?
  4. Reset the console
  5. Unplug the console from the wall, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in
  6. Make sure the cables are attached correctly
  7. try another HDMI cable if you can
  8. Eject the disc, clean it off, and put it back in
  9. Tried any other types of cables
  10. Is any other device on your TV fuzzy?

I know some of those sound simple and almost treating you like an idiot, but I'm not.  9 times out of 10 it is often the simplest thing.

3. I can't link up to Xbox Live

4. It was fuzzy yesterday and I've turned the console off and tried it again today but I'm going to try resetting it now anyway- Nope

5. I'll try that- Nope

9. Should I give the AV cables a try? I was told HDMI was the way to go but I guess it can't hurt to try

If Lost Oddyssy works fine, try deleting your install and installing again. If that still doesn't work either find a buddy that has Mass Effect and see what happens with their disk or either rent it and see what happens.

Also, try clearing your cache.  I forget how to do it but a little research on Google while you're reinstalling Mass Effect should make it easy to find.

If the picture is fine with the rented copy, just swap the copies. If it's still new, try exchanging it wherever you got it from.

do u have the same problem wth your ps3 on the same LCD? same cable?

is not it's some setting in the console or the 360 itself.

You may think the theatrical filter is a problem. Somewhere in the video options you can turn it off. It makes it look all fuzzy. I turned it off first thing.

No PS3 works fine

lol, this is NOT a problem, its a (very good) design choice made by Bioware.

Mass Effect has a "film grain" filter. Just like in the movie "300".
They added this graphical noise by purpose.

This makes the experience more rich, realistic, just like a real movie.

I love it.

I played a few minutes without the filter (you can choose your filter in the options) and I went back to the film grain filter, it is much better. Stronger atmosphere, difficult to describe, I'm just happy it doesn't look like a typical 3D game with shinny plastic surfaces.

Thanks Bioware, you're the best!

THEY BETTER KEEP THIS FEATURE IN MASS EFFECT 2!!!  Or else, I'm gonna cry in a dark corner... :)

So, short answer:

1- Everything is OK in your living room.
2- Mass Effect is unique.

So I can fix this by going into my options? Because if not Im saying this is just another Technical Problem that could have been fixed with a few more weeks/months of polishing

technical problem? LOL
It makes the game better!

But yes, you can turn it off in the options if you prefer "blend generic 3d visuals" just like every other game.

The "film noise" gives Mass Effect another layer of AWESOMENESS!

For someone like you, please don't buy the Blu-Ray 300 movie.
You won't understand the artistic design choice of the added noise on the film.
You'll probably end up at the store saying: "I think my Blu-Ray disc is broken, it's all fuzzy" LOL
Funny.
