Forums - Sony - MGS4 is 1080p!

I might not have a 1080p tv...but I will eventually....and I'm not getting rid of my PS3 any time soon, so I'll be playing MGS4 and every other HD game I buy and play on an HD tv sooner or later.

What are you talking about? The physiscs are very realistic, what you want plastic dumbies that look real(cough*crysis*cough)

1080p is standard, it requires a display and signal containing 1920 Vertical lines and 1080 Horizontal lines, if they are using a video signal any less than that and it would be false advertisiing to specify to the contrary.

Yes, but it's easily possible to render internally at a lower resolution, and scale up the result to send a 1080p output signal.  I don't think that's likely, but what epsilon is arguing is certainly possible.

@shams, you're certainly right that the Cell is involved and you can forget about 60 fps if the code runs slowly.  :)  But my point was just in regard to 1080p.  If the game runs at 60 fps at 720p and 30 fps at 1080p, there's nothing the Cell can do to speed it up in 1080p.

Guys, all of these "deal with it" and "I read this 600 page document" responses are really silly.  Just argue your case and stop trying to act superior.  For the record, I think MGS4 will run at 1080p, not upscaled, at 60 fps.  But if you want to argue technical aspects, get your knowledge straight and leave the personal stuff out of it.

MGS4 is 60fps atleasdt it looks like it since in gameplay it runs very well and extreemly smooth(realstic as well)

I said graphics, but thanks for pointing out the physics too.

You people bitch too much, lol. All I know is I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS GAME!

Some games do 1080p upscaled, many 360/PS3 games do this, just because its says 1080p on the back does not mean it is native 1080p. But lots of games do native 1080p, GT does and it runs at 60FPS. On the Sony site they have a list of games that have native 1080p and all that crap, its on the forums.

Oh, the ignorance.

The Cell has almost nothing to do with whether or not a game can run at 1080P at 60 frames per second. That's completely up to the RSX.

Oh...sorry but don't they have to work with each other? Excuse me if i'm wrong, i'm not up to date with this

It's not really your fault... Sony actually told people that Cell would let them run higher resolution graphics at higher framerates.

the cell is a GPU + CPU mix so logically it can handle the calculations needed for graphics.

A GPU has vastly more parallelism than the Cell does. Generally speaking, it's not going to make sense to offload tasks from the GPU to the CPU.

.. i didnt read a 600 page tech document on the cell released by IBM and not know what im talking about... the Cell is completely designed for parallel processing. Even though it could slow down tasks from GPU to the CELL you can greatly speed up tasks going CELL to GPU. Each SPE can run 3 tasks (but can be forced to do 4 if they are small tasks) so you can have physics calculations running on an SPE and unload it to the GPU to render what was calculated speeding up the rendering time.

OMG not this whole thing again?!?!?

Just kiss the tip.

Ahh, whatever happened to those 1080p games running at 120FPS? :)

Either way it's cool news for MGS4, I just hope that 1080p isn't at a cost of overall game performance.

I agree.
