Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo should use Summer 2009 to gain market share for the Wii.(opinion)

With probably the most packed summer lineup Nintendo has ever in a generation and the competition having a slower release period over the same, Nintendo should use summer to increase thier foothold in the market by heavily campaining certain things.

With a WM+ coming and several bundles exploiting that I expect the combination of Tiger Woods, Grand Slam Tennis, Wii Sports Resort to what Wii Sports did ( at far lesser extent) and bring in new console buyers. If marketed as fiercely as Wiifit expect some consoles to be move especially to golfers and tennis enthusiasts.

Ea Sports Active will become the next must have for the excercising demographic after Wiifit. With heavy advertising it already getting and the promise of far more intense workouts I could see this capturing at least 40% of Wiifit marketshare and grabbing the more of Gym and video workout people demographic easily.

Mainstreamed Core games can move consoles if ADVERTISED. Punch Out and to a lesser extent The Conduit are both games that are capable of hitting both the core and mainstream similiar to Brawl and Halo( Using these as type examples not a sales potential comparison). Games that are able to hit both markets are able not just give a spike in sales but a sustained boost. When these titles come out I expect a  stall  to declining Wii sales or even a rise especially combine with the other main points above.

Hype can move systems by Itself. With E3 around the corner, Nintendo could setup  good summer sales by hyping the general public and core gamers with a variety of surprise and long awaited announcements.Showing plenty of videos and getting as much media attention possible could turn anticipation of said announcements into bait to buy a system in the summer. This possibility is  completely up to Nintendo unlike ther other points above but if Iwata words of compelling software being at E3 are correct then this should happen anyway.

This my opinion of what Nintendo could do with thier summer line up but what do you guys think, did I get good points across ? Is there anything you would add up there? Discuss !!

Those are all good points, but whether or not any of that will happen is still debatable.
I keep saying this, but E3 will have many answers!! Iwata has said Nintendo will present a software line up that will help Wii create and maintain enough momentum to surpass PS2's install base. If Reggie had said something similar, I wouldn't believe it. But with it coming from Iwata... Only a couple of weeks to wait!!

I think Nintendo have a good chance to really gain momentum over the summer..sadly I think they have wasted chances so far.

Excitebots could have been extremely popular with a decent ad campaign .There are so Mario Kart/Wii Wheel owners already so it's quite an oversight not to target those customers with another Wii Wheel based game like Excitebots.

I think that this summer is the right time, but for different reasons.

1st, Japan: This summer you see Wii Sports Resort and Monster Hunter 3. Between them, Wii should once again return to a commanding lead over PS3 week-to-week. Add that to a smaller push from Punch-Out!! and a larger push from WSR in the other regions, combined with the startling slump in sales from both PS3 and 360 (and the fact that nothing too big is scheduled for either this summer), and you have the perfect atmosphere for a Wii marketshare gain.

The only thing that could crush it would be a surprise PS3 price drop (or another 360 drop, but nobody's been agitating for one of those), or the introduction of that PS3 Slim. But it would have to occur this summer, specifically

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

i could see wii hitting 49 % summer. plus with software i think its a given there will be weeks where nintnedo software takes the top 20 spots in both others and USA

I was  thinking 49.3 % myself in the best case scenario.

I can see it getting to 49%, maybe a little higher.
