Sorry, but this is a swiss cheese argument. You're only looking at Nintendo's market share, not the total market. As Nick said, Sega would still be around, making systems, and the market would still be growing. You have no proof of the market shrinking. We went from the Atari days, to the NES, to the 16-bit era, seeing expansions of the total market in each one. Sure, we may not have had the explosion that the PS1 created, but I don't see that as a bad thing. The generation that Sony created has many marked differences, enough so that some would even try to see the new order vs the old timers. So the market would be a bit smaller today, but without the arms race of Sony's creation, it would also be a lot healthier.
As for the claim of no Wii... that's not true, either. Nintendo has said that they design systems for their games. They got the idea for motion control in their games, so it still would have come out. Nintendo's always been good at innovation; removing Sony from the equation would not change that.
