Forums - Gaming - Stop hyping Mass Effect 2!!!

Munkeh -

Here's the issue with that statement: You beat 'most' of Mass Effect, not all, at 25hrs. However, if you spend 100hrs on Final Fantasy, your probably not going to have a lot of extra nuisances to really dignify another playthrough, unless you really, really like the game.

Getting a 1000/1000 score on Mass Effect (ie, doing everything) requires around 80-100hrs. Same length as getting such on Final Fantasy.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

lol, STAGE. How in the world can you talk about the gameplay of either game when you haven't played either. Again with the replay value as well.

And Final Fantasy Versus XIII does NOT have the same characters and is being developed by an entirely different than FF13 is.

JRPG's are not typically live action, so "feeling it" doesn't matter. You can watch a video demonstation of the gameplay and tell whether you'll enjoy it or not. The only thing to actually try out are the choices in the specific games battle system.

Thats weird, I've never played an FF game that for achivements purposes i've felt the need to play twice.

Final Fantasy is still longer than Mass Effect. If it wasn't for the fact that you have to have 3 playthroughs where you complete the majority of the game, it would only be 45-50 hours. When I say 100 hours in Final Fantasy, that is mainly with reference to X, with the Dark Aeons, extra aeons, blitzball, Celestial weapons and other miscellaneous sidequests

While I continue to not hype Mass Effect 2, here is what was apparantly revealed in the latest US OXM

  • You will play as Shepard, but for how long is unknown
  • There is a new species called the Drell and Thane is a new character who is an assassin and may join your party
  • Planets - There will be a Krogan planet, and Illium, an Asari planet, that is like Coruscant from SW. Also there is “Omega” with is like an anti-Citadel in that it’s huge and it’s the bottom of the barrel whereas the Citadel is the height of civilization. Also a Cerebus mothership will act as a location of significance.
  • Story - The ultimate story is still civilization fending off the Reapers, but this chapter will deal with this Cerebus corporation and it’s enigmatic leader. There are human civilizations disappearing and it’s up to Shepard to investigate, it’s termed as a “suicide mission” which may lead to the details of the teaser.
  • New vehicle that controls better than the Mako…a “new” control scheme.
  • Totally revamped inventory system
  • Elevator system revamped where you will get the sense of scope of where you’re at and where you’re traveling.
  • No more texture pop in.
  • Secondary races like Volus and Elcor are much more mobile, giving more depth and makes things more interesting.
  • Choices are more meaningful and there is a real risk that major support characters (i.e. anyone not Shepard) can and will die.
  • Also on the story, they’re super-hyping the ending, saying that it’s much more grand meaningful in ME2.
  • More weapons, more species, more/new team members.
  • returning team members, locations, weapons.

Really now? I watched nearly an hour of video of Final Fantasy 13's battle system. I pictured it in my head and got a grasp on how it worked. I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy or not, and whether it had depth or not.

When my copy of the demo arrived, I was very surprised at how it played and that the videos did not give it justice.

....As I said, it was different because of tryingout specific choices in the battle system. Thats all there is for you to explore.

Oh...thats what the hours in FFXIII will attribute to? It's no different then. Thats not valubable enough form another play through. Thats not even an RPG type achievement.

Big fucking lol @ "ME2 GOTY" comments.

Mass Effect was GOTY for 2007. Copy and past that line into google.

I guess thats why a 'Mass Effect Game Of The Year Edition' is out.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10250552

So what makes you think it's not gonna happen again?

Who exactly sets these standards? How do we know a game is GOTY? Based on reviews/rewards? From whom? There are hundreds of video game related media outlets....of course ME2 will win GOTY from at least one of them. Does that make it "the" game of the year? NOPE. That's like trying to say Saints Row 2 was GOTY 08 because two media outlets named it so. Most of us know realistically that MGS4/Fallout 3/LBP share that title, and as amazing as all three of them are, we cannot say that one of them is the GOTY.

I honestly feel sorry for ME2 if it gets released the same year as FFXIII because it will be completely destroyed. Like someone above me said the sales of FFXIII in Japan should be enough to take on ME worldwide. But we all know sales cant always speak towards a games quality....so let me make it extremely clear that FFXIII will dominate ME2 in that aspect as well.

Mass Effect is great....but it is nowhere near the quality of 80% of games that have "Final Fantasy" in the title. As for those of you who are calling it THE best RPG so far this gen. you should give Lost Odyssey a shot.

The only thing FFXIII will beat ME2 in is worldwide sales. :)

and gameplay, and graphics, and music, and value, and metascore, and number of awards.

Sorry, not that graphics matters, but if Mass Effect 2's graphics are far beyond part one like the devs say, then I cannot grant you that the graphics will be better. Secondly, the gameplay is far deeper in Mass Effect giving actual choice far beyond final fantasy, which is actually held back and restrained. I don't use Metracritic, because it can be easily altered and sabotaged by rival fanboys. However...remember my name, because you will see me laughing the day Mass Effect gets best RPG of 2010. JRPG's are not on a roll this gen, in fact, they are dwindling. WRPG's are growing in fanfare mainly due to games such as Fallout 3, Oblivion, Mass Effect and WOW. SE gets worse as a company where as Bioware just keeps pumping out classics. Haven't you even noticed Biowares amazing track record as of late? Any company can fall, but the only company showing sight of desperation is Square Enix.

Even if we didn't have this disagreement I'd remember your name S.T.A.G.E. If ME2 gets released teh same year as FF there is no way it will win RPG of the year. You just have to specify what source you are talking about when you say it will win the prize. I am willing to make signature, money, whatever bets with you that FFXIII will beat out Mass Effect in quality, critical acclaim as well as number of awards.

In a battle of profits Final Fantasy will win. Why? Because it's on two systems and both will sell well over a million. Mass E ffect will not beat it in sales, it will beat it in quality. As I said, mark my words that Mass Effect 2 will win RPG of the year. Final Fantasy will win best RPG of 2010 on the PS3 alone, but Mass Effect 2 will win best console RPG of 2010.
