Forums - Microsoft - DLC is becoming overwhelming

oh that sucks.
Do they use the modified achievement values? Because i would just recommend non dlc games.
remember that others will have to do it as well, and if you use the modified values then it should probably add a lot to the multiplier.

Modified achievement values? wot?

I'm not playing non DLC games ... for starters I would be missing out on the best of what the 360 has to offer.

I'm all for added content and paying a small price for it. It wasn't free afterall, but some of it is way too pricey for what you get in return.

Also, anything that was on the disc that you are just paying to access is a huge rip-off and devellopers should be ashamed when they pull this crap. Capcom immediately comes to mind.

That's part of the rub isn't it? You want to compete, then you have to suck it up and play the games that help you the most.

Anyhow, some sites use a modified achievement forumula depending on the difficulty of the game's 100%. So like, Hannah montana would get a 1.1 multiplier whereas Fallout 3 would get a 1.8 multiplier because it is much harder to 100%.

I think it's called RA. Real achievements.

Halo Wars Strategic Options DLC Announced

04-21-2009, 1:19 PM by Aloysius

Halo Wars, the best selling real-time strategy game on any current generation console, mixes up the battlefield like never before with the Strategic Options Game Add-on Pack, available in the coming weeks exclusively on Xbox 360®.

Strategic Options ushers in the next wave of battle for Halo Wars with three new game modes which dramatically change the multiplayer experience and challenge you to rethink your battle tactics. All 3 game modes will be available in Skirmish or Multiplayer game types.

  • Keepaway Mode: This is the Halo Wars adaptation of "Capture the Flag." Teams battle it out to capture a free-roaming Forerunner Sentinel to score points before the other team. Capture three to five sentinels to claim victory.
  • Tug of War Mode: This mode is all about having a stronger army than your opponent. Defeating enemies is essential, but success is determined by a combination of the army, buildings, and resources left standing in the end.
  • Reinforcement Mode: All active battle units are provided in successive waves. Adapt to their tactics and use the ever-changing set of units to outwit and outlast the enemy.
Strategic Options also adds four new Achievements worth a total of 100 points:
  • One and Done: Score the winning point in a game of Keepaway against Legendary A.I.'s
  • Pull Hard, Pull Deep: Win and never trail in a Tug of War game
  • Freak on a Streak: Gain at least 15 population from a single wave in a Reinforcement game
  • Living Loving Bug: Obtain a Scarab during a Reinforcement game

Thanks! This should get me back into Halo Wars, this is the kind of DLC I like ..

Even better !

The Battle Intensifies in “Halo Wars” as “Strategic Options” Launches Today on Xbox LIVE Marketplace

18 hours, 53 minutes ago by Aloysius

"Halo Wars" fans can continue the fight in the best selling real-time strategy game on any current generation console. Mixing up the battlefield like never before, Microsoft and Robot Entertainment unleash new game modes in “Strategic Options” today on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points.

“Strategic Options,” the first Game Add-on for the wildly popular “Halo Wars,” introduces new ways to compete while challenging players to rethink their battle strategies in both single and multiplayer skirmish gameplay. The three new game modes included in the new Game Add-on are:

  • Keepaway Mode: In this “Halo Wars” adaptation of Capture the Flag, teams will battle it out to capture a free-roaming Forerunner Sentinel to score points before the other team. The number of Sentinels needed to win scales with the number of combatants.
  • Tug of War Mode: Players must build a stronger army than their opponents to succeed. Defeating enemies is essential, but success is determined by a combination of the army, buildings and resources left standing in the end.
  • Reinforcement Mode: Players must adapt their tactics and use the ever-changing set of units to outwit and outlast the enemy, all the while facing successive waves of incoming units.

The “Strategic Options” Game Add-on is available on May 19, 2009 on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 800 MS Points. “Halo Wars” is rated T for Teen by the ESRB and 16+ PEGI and is available worldwide exclusively on Xbox 360. A demo is also available on Xbox LIVE in all LIVE enabled regions worldwide. For more information including screenshots from the “Strategic Options” Add-on, visit Xbox.com/Halo or

800 MS-Pts... too pricey as always...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

If we're talking about upcoming stuff you should add the GeoW2 Lost Chapters.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

paid DLC will keep being made because you people buy them. Console gamers are getting ripped off when they buy severely over-priced DLC.

PC gamers have it great, almost all their DLC is completely free - and the ones that aren't free are usually from free-to-play games.

While people bought those COD4 maps for $10, Infinity Ward released them for free on PC.

I never said I didn't enjoy it Shio, we all CHOOSE to pay for it so no we're not being ripped off.

and bully for you, why are you even on this website again? must be hard seeing how popular consoles are compared to PC gaming ..

You all choose to pay for it because you haven't been exposed to superior quality services. Microsoft tried to implement their rip off subscription GFWL (XBL's PC twin) and no one on PC subscribed to it because PC gamers have much more quality, free services, and ultimately forced MS to make GFWL free.

With DLC it's the same thing. PC gamers are used to superior, quality add-ons that give bang for your buck, and free user modifications that are higher quality than what you pay for on XBL.

And no, it's not hard seeing how popular consoles are to PC gaming, because PC is more popular than them and has currently over 300 millions PC gamers.

PC gaming just isn't cool Shio, get over it

I have played on the PC and no I don't think its superior, obviously millions of others don't either.

With so many companies, especially ones that make HD games, having financial problems how can you blame them for bringing out DLC as another means of making money?  If you enjoy a game what's the harm in sending money to the people that made it possible?

The reality is that the value runs the spectrum. Some content is overpriced, and some content is worth its price and more. So it is entirely hit or miss. For me the value is decided by a dollar to hour ratio I apply to standard games. When I purchase a sixty dollar game. I expect to get sixty hours of entertainment. Less and it was a poor value. More it was a great value.

So if I spend sixty on extra content, and get sixty hours from that. Then I feel I have lost nothing to additional content purchasing. To be honest I am striking deal even. The culprit as others have pointed out is Fable 2. I have gotten great value from Bring down the Sky, and from Broken Steel. However I have gotten less then stellar performance from the two Fable expansions. Halo 3 is quixotic sure you get your value, but that owes more to repetition not revelation.

For me the lesson is this ask how many hours you get before you buy. As long as your getting a good ratio the content is at least worth a true new game. You even avoid the perils of getting a game you dislike. Know what is good value, and you should be ahead. I was personally toying with picking up lost and damned, but after just being burned by Fable I decided I would pick up a heavily discounted Broken Bond.
