Forums - Gaming - Yahoo: Apple maybe taking on Gamming Heavy weight

This news would have more weight about 6 years ago when EA had much better sales. Most of their franchises now have mediocre sales and their newest ones have had disappointing sales.

If Apple buys EA instead of making a new console (smart thing to do) then they wont even make any games for 360, because its microsoft, where a PS3 is basically a Mac (kindof). So its all good for me, not sure about 360 owners.

 Umm.... yeah...

Apple and MS aren't on nearly as bad terms as you think, and the PS3 is no Mac (no, not even kind of).  If anything is "a Mac" it is the Wii.  So it is NOT all good for you.

Plus, the contracts for MADDEN require that games NOT be exclusive, so its not as if Apple can simply withold Madden from Sony, MS and Nintendo.

News flash!!!!  Apple is a business - just like MSontendo.  There are only 2 wise moves from acquiring EA - console wise.  (1.)  Lauch hardware using EA as a ready-made software studio or (2.)  make software for ALL consoles and make money (they hope) while shifting lots of support to I-phone/I-pod.  They will not hold out on MS just for spite (it would be foolish), plus MS/Apple are more friendly than you might think (MS even owns a bit bite of Apple).

Either way, EA is irrelivant to me - since the last EA game (and only EA game I purchased in the last 8 years) was Red Alert 3.  Since SC2 and SUPCOM are still going strong - who cares.

Apple could totally screw MSontendo and the PC, I could care less.  On the other hand, they could turn it around and EApple could be relevant.  Either way, I win.

Hey Bullet doggy, dont make a thread where there's just a link. Sometimes u arent able to click on a link to a different site for technical reasons (and sometimes people are simply too lazy for it).

U should have copied over at least some of the text (preferably key chunks) over to your OP.

I'm not sure why everybody thinks Microsoft and Apple are water and oil. It's true that they compete in a lot of markets, but they also make software which runs on each other's platforms all the time. Notably, Windows and Office can run on a Mac, while iTunes, Quicktime, and Safari run on a Windows PC.

If they stand to gain by it, both companies can and will make products which run on each other's platform. It's not a given that an Apple-owned EA would stop making games for Windows and Xbox.

I'm a little disappointed that this video brings no info which hasn't been available for a few weeks now.

I have serious doubts about Apple producing a console. More than likely these hirings are to beef up their lackluster support for computer gaming. Yes one of the guys was a GC engineer, but all that means is that he has come insight already into Apple machines. His GC experience will allow Apple to improve their game software hardware layer. As at the moment Macs only have OpenGl and OGL lacks elegant easy to use techniques. Having a engineer work with their software guys could produce an improved OpenGL gaming layer api to start trying to produce a MS DX and XNA(?) system. Having an easier game development on Mac system might entice developers.

After that if they then use the same model as the iPhone/iTouch distribution of cheap games as an introductionary method they could can increase their gaming profile. With their game profile increased they can finally start making a real dent into the PC market.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

I cant believe that device (iPhone/iPod touch) dont have physical buttons. It can never become a big hit among gamers for that sole reason.

The tilting looks so utterly stupid.
