Apple doesn't need Sony.

They could invest a billion or so in their own game division if that's what they wanted to do.

The price of a company is not the value of the assets it owns. You have to subtract the debt and other liabilities from that.

Actually I wouldn't mind if Apple bought Sony and I could care less what either M$ or Apples market cap is.   And it would probably be good for Sony to let someone who knows how to run a company take over, this would be a good thing for gaming in general.   I was just pointing out to a person who was bias, that M$ has a large release later in the season and its market cap will move upwards by lots.

Personally as someone who just bought vista I'm fucking pissed they are dropping it after only 2 years instead of just fixing the fucking thing. I've always supported PC over mac but right now if I could get a Mac for a decent Price I would jump ship in a heartbeat. This is especially true now that PC gaming is dead.

 Why would that bother you so much?  The Vista OS will still be supported for years and years so it shouldn't bother you one bit.  Besides everyone has known for a while now that Vista would be replaced realitively soon.  That would be like me buying a new Ford F150 and then next year there is a newer version released by Ford.  It simply wouldn't make since for me to be upset with Ford for or M$ for trying to update their product and give new customers a better version.

 

Release a new os or not, someone will always find a way to complain about it one way or another.

How exactly am I supporting anything?  I was just giving you real life examples that you blew off.  If anything, your just bashing.  You WILL have continued support with Vista (for years to come ) no matter how much you bitch or whine.  If you have a problem with M$ in general there are other options for you that no one said not to take up.  Apple has a great OS and so does Linux.  

 

P.S. Just remember Apple likes to come out with upgraded versions of their OS fairly quickly as well, that you have to pay for I might add.  I don't hear anyone complaining about that.

How are they in direct competition?  For the people saying iPhone vs PSP umm..no.  No.  The iPhone vs Sony Ericcson?  Sony Ericcson is at the bottom of the totem pole anyway..if the companies were to merge, Sony Ericcson would be gone.

Direct competition is Apple vs. MS.  Direct competition is PS3 vs 360.  

 

*Edit*Where is their direct competition?  Where is Apple's plasma TV's?  Where is their stereo equipment?  Where is their mobile audio equipment?  Where is Sony's OS (if you say XMB I'll choke myself)?  The walkman argument is kind of lame also..how long has the walkman been on the backburner at Sony?  Most people would agree it could afford to be canceled.  Come on..
