I don't know about you, but my pre-dualshock and dualshock controllers from 1997, Dualshock 2 from 2002, Sixaxis's from 2007 and Dualshock 3 from 2008 all still function flawlessly. Maybe your general PS3 hate hurt their feelings and they decided to implode on you

I have 4 dualshock 2s and they are all largely fine. The DS3s/Sixaxis controllers are the only ones that've given me problems, especially considering how little I've used them compared to all my ps2 controllers. He's definately not alone here, as I've experienced this very annoying problem first hand.

Same. I bought a PS2 around launch, and the controller worked completely fine for about 8 years. Same goes for DualShock. It sucks the PS3 can't use DualShock 2s for PS2 games. And no, I didn't throw it to the wall.

Here is how helpful the internet is mirson. Next time, please don't start a dumb thread causing havok.

Solution:
Open the controller. Take out the trigger button and make sure the spring is correctly positioned. Then replace the trigger.

Places to get a new spring if the spring is actually broken.

1) Ebay sells broken sixaxis controllers for 1$, same on craigslist.
2) If you have a way to get some of those 3 1/2" floppy disks laying aroung you can rip them apart and take out the spring which is the same type. Simply cut the  "legs" shorter and slap em in the controller. You can also buy the disks online.

Alternative solutions:

Call Sony because your controllers are obviously within warranty and should have been your first stop, not the vgc forums to complain about it.

Go to a gamestop, buy a used controller, walk out, switcheroo, walk back in and return the switched controller.

Try a hardware store using the picture I have provided for you.

EDIT: When it says that your PS3 is dead (in your sig) how have you been using these controllers at all. I am starting to seriously doubt your credibility.

My triggers are fine, it's the analog sticks that have a history of screwing up for me. Either they start getting stuck, or they become too loose and don't work properly.

@cactus. What I've noticed from any controller I've used in the past, is that if you are too rough with the analogs, they start to wear and there is a buildup of material, ie: loss of material. Same recommendation for you, buy a 1$ controller on ebay and replace the analogs.

I can't see the pics, and my PS3 died yesterday (the lens).

I've had my PS3 for around a year now, and I have had my two six-axis with it since the beginning.

They both are still working okay, except one of them has a clicking left analogue (rotating it 180 degrees or more and it starts making a clicking sound as it's turning, but it doesn't effect gameplay). I know it's not right because I've never encountered a PS controller that's done it (and I've had at least 7 over the last 3 generations) AND it doesn't happen each and every time I turn the analogue.

One thing that's universally bad I've noticed is that the triggers tend to feel spongey, they don't have the same snap back like the RT and LT on the 360 do. Also, the lack of real estate under the controller (they did just take a DS2, minus the rumble and cable and shaved the bottom to include triggers) makes it hard to play for longer than an hour without straining my hands.

But otherwise they're both fine and I don't really mind the lack of rumble. They don't feel as sturdy as the 360 controllers or the DS3, but they work fine and I'm not forking out $99AUD for a more heavy controller.

Also, I've notice the rise in PS3 fanboyism in VGChartz. The guys expressing an opinion, and his own experience. From my own experience, I do agree with him. The Six-axis (in my view) is the worst (official) playstation controller ever and I've owned them all (including the analogue free PS1 controller). It's easily the worst this generation, fair inferior to the 360 controller AND the Dual Shock 3.

So give the guy a break, congratulations that you're controllers haven't broken, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. Do you want a medal? Seriously, what are you trying to accomplish?

It's not like a person is going to go onto the internet and decide to not buy a PS3 just because some random they don't know had a technical issue. It's people like Mirson that get you the DS3. Sony recognised an issues with six-axis and they addressed it. DS3 may have dual shock and be more heavy, but it's also alot more sturdy and the triggers actually have feel to them.

Guess it's time to put your ps3 to rest then.

My first DS2 (pre-slim edition, softer buttons, smooth controller) has a wacky left analog, it also gets stuck. Only after 4 years of abuse though.

Sucks, but you should be able to backup your stuff if you can get into the XMB. It's gonna be $149 to fix too. I felt really ripped off having to pay the $169 for a PS3 repair here in canada.
