Forums - Sales - Slinter Cell Conviction VS Uncharted 2 (Sales only)

Splinter cell: Double agent was released during a time that people were torn between their last gen consoles and current gen consoles.

I first played Splinter cell: Double agent on the origional xbox, therefore my 360 copy was 2ND hand.

Splinter cell: Double agent was released on...............................

Xbox
Gamecube
PS2
Xbox 360
Wii
PS3

Now with SC: Conviction only been on 360/PC i think the game will sell brilliantly (ie potential ex gamecube and ps2 owners buying it for their 360)

Oh, please. The Xbox version of Splinter Cell always sold best. Not many GameCube owners now own a 360. Quite a few PS2 owners do, but really, of 810,000 people on a userbase of 130 million, how many of those people will own one of 30 million Xbox 360s?

Splinter Cell is clearly on a decline, even ignoring Double Agent (not quality wise, but sales wise, certainly). On Xbox only:

Splinter Cell: 2.93 million

Pandora Tomorrow: 1.41 million

Chaos Theory: 1.07 million

To expect the series to jump from 1.07 million, on a downward trend, to 3 million+, is quite ridiculous, I think. All of the versions of Double Agent combined would have hit around 2 million (we only have data for 360, PS3 and Wii, which are 1.41 million in total, of which, to be fair, 1.14 million were from 360).

@ Kantor.

I'm just throwing the fact that Splinter cell: Double agent was on 6 platforms and Uncharted was only on one platform in to the melting pot.

Now the playing field has been levelled up somewhat with Uncharted 2 and SC: Conviction

In decline? perhaps..... But with people only having the option of buying SC: Conviction on 360 or pc it's bound to help 360 sales immensly.

SC: DA's release around the same time as new gen consoles can't have helped either.

And as mentioned before....... ex gamecube, ps2 owners who have converted to 360 will help too.

Lastly.......... Userbase

Yes, Double Agent was on six platforms. But the 360 version sold several times more than the PS3 and Wii versions combined. I doubt the Xbox version sold very much, as the 360 was out by then, and Splinter Cell never really sold on PS2 or Wii.

So, being on two platforms only won't give much of a boost because the majority of the sales of Double Agent were on 360, anyway.

And Double Agent released a few months before the PS3 and Wii, and over a year after the 360. I wouldn't say it was affected by them at all.

There aren't that many PS2 and GameCube owners who have converted to 360, and besides, the games sold on Xbox! They made the other platforms' sales look pathetic.

As for userbase, both platforms will have had a considerable increase in userbase from the release of the predecessors to their respective games.

^^ 5 - 6 million ... yeah thats a limb alright!!! Thats not even realistic ...

 Just wait and see

I don't need to, its not going to happen.

This. Uncharted 2 will likely see 3-3.5mill tops...

If it reachs 3 million thats great for a PS3 exclusive, its the higher end of what they do.

the first one sold 2.3 million and the game was out in 07 uncharted 2 will sel easily 3.5million (at least)

excuse me, higher install base does not mean higher sales ...

It's a shame that there's no sales data whatsoever for the xbox, ps2 or gamecube versions of SC: DA (ps2 and xbox version sales would be nice to know)

Both exclusive to one console (SC: Convictions sales on PC don't worry me) and both released during the peak of their respective consoles. (as opposed to uncharted been one of ps3's first BIG game's and SC:DA releasing during the transitional period)

Based on all the above i say it will be tight............. But Conviction will sell better.

I think Uncharted2 will do better than expected, SC will do worse than expected, still SC could outsell Uncharted 2, but im not sure, could be easily the opposite

Figure of speech. Looks at Gears of War. Higher install base did nothing for it.

as Uncharted was approaching 2 million it got bundled .. .. I really don't see it doing 3.5 million ... thats around MGS4 .. ridiculous ..

was having a joke. maybe uncharted 2 will be bundled, but you cant say a bigger install base doesnt increse sales because it does even if its only by a few thusand sales
