Why do people think that vista 64bit (or vista in general) is good for gaming? It is probably one of the worst OSs to be doing anything on.

Wow, this person is about the least advised I've ever seen.

64-bit is superior in MANY ways to 32bit.  Vista 64-bit is the best 64bit OS available and Vista is more than a great OS now.  Sure Windows 7 is better, but Vista is now better than XP in almost every respect.

The only things that don't work on 64-bit Vista is items without 64-bit drivers and some older programs.  All games run fine and 64-bit OS's even run 32-bit programs faster than a standard 32-bit OS.

Not to mention 64-bit is necessary when you want more than 3.5GB of total system memory (video and RAM).  So it is almost a necessity that gaming computers use 64-bit Vista for these reasons. 4GB is perfect for gaming and even higher than that is a good idea since you can cache more of the game on RAM and decrease loading.

Meh.  May be true for older games or crappy computers.  Vista 64 bit has impressed me quite a bit lately.  That said, I can't wait for windows 7.

yea id stay away from 64 bit OS for gamming

I am running Windows 7 64-bit and my performance is better than my Vista 32-bit OS. In Crysis I probably get 10-15fps more - whether this is down to Win7 or the number of bits, I can't be sure. The advantage with using a 64-bit system though is if you have more than 3gb of RAM, you can utilise that, rather than being limited which results in faster loading times / texture performance.

Pretty weak by todays standards (for gaming), but good enough for everything else. HP D330 2.8Ghz Pentium 4, 512MB RAM, 22X DVD DL RW SATA and (my favorite part) 250GB SATA harddrive. Im saving and skipping the socket LGA775 generation and plan to jump onto the LGA1366/DDR3 generation when the technology matures (becomes affordable). By then I will be able to play Crysis :p

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

the games you are playing are 32 bit, running on an emulator called wow64 which is built into windows.  Until games are coded in 64 bit, you getting no performance gain, but taking a loss.  I can show you comparisions.  windows itself may load faster along with 64 bit applications

IM sure this is due to windows 7.  Windows 7 is said to be much faster then vista

32 bit windows will take up to 4 gbs of ram. which is still plenty for today's pc games

my compy is a home built:

XP Pro 32bit
Intel core 2 duo E8400 3.0GHz 45nm
8600GT 512MB
4GB Kingston HyperX DDR2 1066
400GB SATA HDD
500w PSU

I will get Win7 later this year, probably 64bit.

Not the best, but pretty good I think.

I can play Crysis, and I have a Windows performance index around 4.3 or something like that. Nothing good, but good enough since I don't do THAT much PC gaming.

Mine's powerful enough to pick up chicks on eHarmony with, and that's all that matters.
