Read the IGN review
The control are pretty simple. You don't have direct control over your units (miners will go back and forth to the mines, and soldiers will always go right), you use the icons at the top to purchase upgrades, buy units, and cast spells. Buying the right units for the job and watching the frontlines to cast the right spells are the things that will make you win the battle. it's pretty simple, but not "too simple"
I've only played the Vikings and Aztec so far, and don't know much about the strengths and weaknesses of the Chinese. I'm currently playing the Aztec campaign and I just got my ass kicked by a Chinese army in the 9th mission. In all the previous missions against them, they always had rather weak units and didn't pose much threat, but this time they had a lot new units and I didn't what strategy to use to properly dispose of them.
