Im 99% sure its a real prototype, it makes sense for Sony.
This little thing, nomatter how ugly it may be can enable Sony to gain market share, reduce production costs and possibly still make profit

unless its cheaper (probably will be) it wont do much sales wise

Nobody buy a PS3 until this thing is released. I am selling my phat tomorrow. Can't wait to get the definitive version of this console. :)
