That's a huge drop, is there a Wii shortage in US?

Last year the Wii got MK Wii and Wii Fit and Brawl was released just March.

When has games RELEASES ever mattered in the sales of the Wii in NA?

Um shipments increase when big games release.   Nintendo increased shipment for Wii in NA by a hell of alot when Mario Kart Wii released. Sold out in stores doesn't mean that Ninty doesn't have the ability to ship more at key times.

It would be nice, if PS2 outsold x360...))

If it's any consolation, the PS2 outsold the PS3.

Overall, good sales for Sony console family, since, probably they are making a profit this month. =)

DAAAAMMMNNNNN!!!!!!

That can't be right...  Wasn't 360 at 188k last April?  And PS3 at 187.1k?  I swore I just saw that somewhere...

Only a 48K gap, that's small. Dreadful PSP sales too.

True. Wii's huge April '08 was due to a surge in Wii stocks, obviously designed to counter the launch of GTA IV. The Wii isn't supply constrained anymore, so that trick isn't going to work anymore.

I think his point is that even without having any killer apps in the past...year?...the Wii still sold gangbusters in North America. He argues that this month implies that the gravy train is over.

For what it's worth, I agree.

The second row are the numbers of last april but I don't get what the third row is =p;

Actually the table was badly made. Here's the correct table:

April'09 April '08 March'09 MoM YoY
DS 1004 415 563 78% 142%
PS2 172 124 112 54% 39%
360 175 188 330 -47% -7%
PS3 127 187 218 -42% -32%
PSP 116 193 168 -31% -40%
Wii 340 714 601 -43% -52%

The rows aren't correctly aligned with the names, but now it's easy to figure out which row means (for example, first row is "April '09", second row is "April '08", and so on)

Analysts....

“I think the introduction of the DSi just captured a lot of folks’ attention for the month. While the Wii was down, it still sold a lot of units 30 months after its release. By comparison, in April ‘03 when the PS2 was 30 months in the market, it sold 264K units and had an install base of 17.5 million - and I think we’d all call the PS2 a major success. The Wii install base is now at 20 million. Also keep in mind that last year the introduction of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart were big catalysts for Wii hardware acquisition and we just don’t have titles of that magnitude this year. So while it’s tempting to start to want to find issues, I don’t think we can read that much into what this means when we’re comparing against some monster months last year.” - Anita Frazier, industry analyst at NPD
