Forums - Nintendo - should i wait for new play control metroid?

So I really want to get into the Metroid Prime series, but I want to play the new Wii versions. My question isss.. Do I need to play 1 and 2 to understand the story in 3? I wanna be able to catch little back story hints and stuff in the newer ones. Or are the stories completely unrelated?

please don't eat my soul if someone already posted this and I didnt notice.

well the Prime series is a trilogy but it's not like Lord of the Rings where its one story split up into three. there are links between the stories but i'd say they stand far enough apart so that it's not necessary to play the earlier games.

i'd say go ahead and play corruption then come back to the others when the New Play Control versions are released.

The stories are definitely related but it's not essential to have played the first two games to understand and follow the story in the third. Also in Metroid the story is not forced onto you it's your choice whether you scan computers, historical logs and the environment which is mostly how the story is told and the back story is built up.

I am a huge fan of the original Prime, it's one of my favourite games ever and i really like Prime 3 as well. Having played Prime 3 through a couple of times i now find it difficult to go back to the old controls so i will be waiting for NPC before i play Prime 2 which i missed while i was overseas.

I've played all three and haven't even got a clue what the heck the story is. I just play the game, shoot the aliens, fight the bosses and solve the puzzles.

Well if you havn't played 1 or 2 then some stuff will fly over your head, but Metroid isn't and never has been a story driven game and not understanding elements of the story certainly will not diminish the quality of the game, especialy considering that the story element of the Prime series is largely optional.

Didn't Metroid 1 already out with N(ew)P(lay)C(ontrol)?

Great question.

I got MP3 in 2007, but set it aside about 20% of the way in for SMG and never got back to it until recently when I started it all over again.

To answer the original poster's question, I had no problems understanding and getting into the game despite the fact that I hadn't played a Metroid game since the original for NES.

It's definitely one of the best games I've ever played, and I didn't realize that they were making NPC versions of MP and MP2, so hopefully those will come out in the US soon so I can keep enjoying the Metroid series until the next is released.

Now Playing: Pikmin, Super Mario Galaxy 2

I Finish MP1, and like five Years later MP3 didn't remember a thing on the story but I really enjoy the game even that I never play MP2!!!

Go Get the game you're gonna love it!!! and if you finish it with 100% you get to see Zero suit Samus
