Forums - Gaming - So...I finally have an HDTV... and...

Based on what i have seen some games still look better on my 37" SDTV then on my 40"1080p LCD TV. There is also a much better balance of colours on the SD, while more vibrant on the HD. Resistance2 and CoD4 both look pretty good on my SD.

Congrats :p . I've had my 42 " 1080P Sony Bravia for 18 Months now. It still amazes me :p

you've made me feel sad nao. T.T you higher end mofo. :P

lol. What make and model did you get?

Element - 32 " - 720p only had for about a 3 to 4 days.

I dont know the brand but its really nice imo. plus i heard 720p is fine for most games unless its exclusive so..

lol, cheapo.

That's a Circuit City brand HD television. Enjoy it!

:O thats just mean.....

I didn't mean it that way. I worked at CC until they closed down, so I have good history with Element.

:P thing is i didn't pay a dime, my dad did.

How is Element Outlaw? i like the name, it sounds cool, but hows the overall quality compared to other HDTV's?

Well, standalone it's not bad at all!

Do you want a real answer comparing to other HDTVs?

Yeah... >_>

It's comparable to Vizio. I'll stop there.

I just read reviews about the brand, and this quote was used the most. " In general, their features are slightly above average" so thats good enough for me imo.

Again, i didn't buy it, my dad did for me so i put out no money lol, i'll pick up a Sony for me later on down the line when i can. :P

Elements overall quality represents a good value when taking into account its price (much like Vizio as the person above stated). Longevity is what worries me with "budget" companies. Keep us posted. My Samsung 40'' LCD and I just celebrated our two year anniversary not too long ago and its still trucking. Its far outclassed by now with Samsungs amazing new TVs but thats  to be expected. Just remember: Even if you buy the best, highest end product from a recognizable brand it'll no longer be amazing comparitively within a year.

@Bolded 1 - So that means my HD has a higher chances of breaking then other HDTV's? :(

@Bolded 2 -  So...its damn if ya do damn if ya dont? or ... ?

Don't worry about your TVs build quality. As long as it doesnt say "Made in Taiwan" on the back you're fine. There was a budget brand, Protron, not too long ago that had cheap Taiwanese parts and after a year they all started dropping like flies. ShopNBC was promoting the brand and had to fire the guy who represented the company and face huge backlash from customers. This isnt cherry picking I swear:

And for the second thing you bolded: Its technology. Just like computers become quickly outdated, so will TVs. People will come over and the first question they ask is "Is it 1080P?" which really irritates me because it really doesnt matter until you hit 46''. Either way, an awesome TV today is an average TV tomorrow. So it goes.

@1- Ahh i see, you know you're tech lol. and i looked in the back it says "Made in China" so im in the clear of that, and i take care of all my gear so. :P

@2. lol yeah true, so 1080p doesn't matter UNTIL its above 46"? if so i'll keep that in mind when ever i go looking for a 1080 HD'er.

Yeah under 46'' doesnt matter unless you sit like 3 feet away from the TV, which imo is insane for some neck strain (oh yay a rhyme). Pixel density is just too much at smaller sizes to tell a big enough difference to justify the cost.

Mmm i see, thanks for all the info man!

Btw, how would a PS2 fair on an HDTV? i still have a slim model from around when they first came out, and still have alot of games i'd like to play on it, even though my PS3 has backwards its HD only imo, same goes for the 360.

I heared somewhere lastgen consoles FUCK up HDTV's but how can that be? when so many people who own the Wii also have HDTV's.. (as stupid as that is since wii is SD -_-)

Last gen consoles don't mess up HDTVs, the games for them just look incredibly crappy on them. Since SDTV = ~300,000 pixels and your TV has close to 1,000,000 pixels, this means that each pixel will have to be stretched to fit the new resolution. It will stretch further if its not meant for widescreen and you can't set a letterbox option. So no, they will not mess up your TV. They will just look like dirt on it.

The PS3 does an admirable job at upscaling, though. Doesn't look too bad, just mediocre.

Awesome, thats all i wanted to know, even if it looks crap aslong as the HDTV is fine then its no big deal, still though i'll review later on the chartz about just how fugly the PS2 looks on an HDTV.

Though the PS3 looks wonderful! while the 360 looks great!

PS3 - 10/10 -

X360 - 9/10 -

PS2 - ?/10 -

Try calibrating your TV if you can, boy does that make a WORLD of a difference.

I'm playing on a 28" comp screen so 1920x1200 max... the Xbox goes to 1600 only on it though (for the amount of 1080P games it's ok) cause I only have a VGA cable (no HDMI port on the XBOX), also got the Wii hoocked to it.

The quality is good, and I have to confress going from composit to VGA on the 360 made a huge difference.... basically the same as SD to HD :p

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

Using any HD device on a old SD TV is a crime

I wouldnt touch samsung or sony for sound... (Sammy do make graet TV's now.. really great!)

For sound.. you want an AV from Onkyo (possibly Yamaha if budget) or a decent European brand if you can afford them are the best by far.

These two i said are "cheap" in a way. I agree you can find much better. As for the sound that is coming from the sony one, highs and mids are loud and crystal clear, but i do have problems with the bass. When i put the amp over 1/4 my walls want to get away. That damn thing is powerful (1000Watts)

I love HD. When I first got my Sony CRT HDTV, I never wanted to go back. My fisrt taste of HD was with my Xbox and component hookups. It blew me away. I have a PS2 hooked up in my car and flip out in-dash lcd monitor and I don't even want to play games on it or watch movies. I feel cheated if I don't watch a movie in HD through my HDTV and if I don't hear it through my surround sound system. The same thing goes for gaming. I want the best quality that the console can put out or I won't play it. I will only play PS2, Gamecube, Xbox games if they are putting out through component cables, even if the game can only support 480i.

With all the HDTVs out there, after all this time, nothing can beat an HD CRT TV. I won't upgrade until a tech comes out that can beat it or match it. I will keep my 220 lb. monster till then. n_n
