Forums - Sony - 3 years PS3 - no innovation, just Shooters?

What happened? After 3 years we have the best available FPS on a console with Killzone2, but where is the innovation? Does Sony only try to beat XBOX360 in Shooter Quality?

The PS3 Eye is almost unused! I could imagine incedible cool games, bringing the Eyetoy stuff from PS2 to a next level? Two PS3 Eye as combo could capture 3 dimensional movements. Imaginate Wii Boxing style Game with full 3D Capture of the movements of the player! Street Fighter with full body capture....

Where are the new ideas? The Games are always so linear, you can follow only ONE clear path in the Game worlds, no free terrain to move whereever you want...CoD WaW are examples... I want a map where I can choose my own path...

Where is a Super "ELITE" Space Simulation Game (you remember from Commodore 64) which you play online... or the XWING vs TIE-FIGHTER Star Wars Games where we can play online together and attack Star Destroyers, or defend them?

Somebody remembers Broderbonds "The Castles of Dr. Creep" on the C64? This could be an incredible cool online game, like LBP today.

But what do we get? FPS, FPS and maybe a 3PS...

Well there's LBP, Flower, and Nobby Nobby Boy (sp?)...

I don't own a PS3, but those three just came to mind that were pretty unique experiences.

I'm not complaining. Games like LittleBigPlanet are different enough from the norm, and the PSN has some fantastic titles.
A non linear game? I believe you might want to see InFamous for that.

The Star Wars games are up to Lucasarts, not Sony. =(

Ratchet and Clank are good games, Uncharted, WipEout HD, Savage Moon, Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, etc... And these are just first (/second) party. Plenty more, too. Oh, can't forget Flower; best use of the SIXAXIS controls I've ever seen! There are some unique and different games out there. Shooters are good too, though.

EDIT:

That one is weird...

OK. In October it will be out 3 years....

If you look on my VGChartz Profile, you see that I have a lot of PS3 Games (around 45). Yes Ratchet and Clank is great and Drakes Fortune too. But Ratchet and Clank is just a pepped up version of PS2 and PSP versions, Drake is a very cool adventure, but somehow nothing really new besides better graphic...

Some PSN games are innovative... I agree...

LBP says HELLO

most creative title of 2008 and one of best reviewed.

though innovative titles are left to the PSN, due it less likely to cause game to fail due it low productions cost it needs.

Uncharted, just better graphics? WoW

To your PSN comment, RIGHT! So what's the problem?

That, and going by your gaming collection;

Assassin's Creed. Not a shooter. DiRT. Not a shooter. Eyecreate. Not a shooter. Fight Night Round 3. Not a shooter. Genji. Not a shooter. GT5P. Not a shooter. Three Guitar Hero games. Not shooters. LBP. Not a shooter. Motorstorm. Not a shooter. NGS. Not a shooter. Prince of Persia. Not a shooter. Pro Evolution Soccer. Not a shooter. etc etc etc.

It seems to me like you have lots of non shooting games.

EDIT: More on the PSN side of things, Pixeljunk Monsters/Eden, and we can't forget the upcoming Fat Princess. XD

Well what has the 360 done in particular to advance gaming? It's basically more of the same stuff as well. Halo 3 is pretty kickass though... :P

The only system I could put an argument up for claiming that it's done revolutionary games is the Wii, but that's probably because it's the console I follow the closest. I'm sure there are plenty of awesome and unique PS3 games out there. The problem is that the mainstream audience tends to want more of the same stuff with just minor tweaks here and there. If you want to get into the more niche, unique, and possibly more fun games for you, you'd have to start looking into the library deeper.

EDIT: Oh wow how did I forget about Assassin's Creed and Uncharted? Those are two popular, big budget, very unique games.

EDIT2: Damn, is Fat Princess coming out on XBLA? I really wanted to be able to play that. When is it coming out btw?

No, Fat Princess is PSN exclusive. It's coming out sometime this summer, not sure when though...

I don't know what to tell you...

I've seen tons of cool things... but I can't say anything because I really don't know what innovation is...

People call the Wii-Mote innovative... I thought it was boring.
People say LBP is innovative... I hardly touch it anymore... when I used to I was just running through levels with friends... Creating a level took too much time for me to give a hoot...
People say XBL is innovative... I really don't find it to be any nicer than PSN.... and I don't like paying to use it at it's fullest when I can play online for free on my PS3, PSP and DS.
