I have recently been retro gaming quite a bit and decided to replay silent hill 2. Even after all these years since it release the game still managed to be the scariest game I have ever played. The plot is something you can get lost in, due to its ambiguous ending, the music is amazing, and am a proud owner of the OST. After playing 3, 4, and 5, and comparing it to the recent resident evil release id have to say personally, silent hill 2 is the best survival horror of all time (currently). Does anybody else share my sentiments?

I prefer SH3, but SH2 had Pyramid Head. I liked REMake on the Gamecube more than both, though.

no, SH2 is amazing, but it fails to be number 1 in 2 things:

1. fun, REmake is way more fun to play and replay continuosly

2. survival horror, for me the only game that has truly captured the escence of what survival horror is is clock tower on the snes, itis actually about survival and horror, not about shooting at a boss..

I never played SH4 (but the demo was creepy!) or Homecoming. Are they worth buying? At the time SH4 came out, I was more trusting of reviews and I missed a lot of good games as a result. Could you put them in order from best to worst, since you've played 'em all?

Ive yet to play REmake or SH2 but I do have both right now. So I'll get back to you but Resident Evil is still my favorite so far.

I completely agree. And it possibly had the greatest ending of any game ever. In water ending is the best/most depressing.

If you like Silent Hill 2 you will love fatal frames 1, 2, and 3. They are a totally different style of horror (more ghost story than purgatory), but they're equally suspensful and atmospheric.

Plus the combat is more fun than in Silent Hill because the camera mechanic is genius. It basically acts like a gun (aim and shoot), but what makes it so great is the further away the enemies are when you shoot them the less points for upgrading the camera. So you have to wait until they are right on you to get max points, thus increasing your chance of getting hit and making it suspenseful as hell.

Also give the latest Siren a go if you have a PS3.
