That is the biggie, PS3 has come at the back of 3 successful consoles. PS3 is said to have eaten into every penny made by Playstation and will continue to do so but before all is said and done, PS3 and PSP will put the Playstation brand back into profit.

As you can see Nintendo had $4+ billion in profit in the fiscal year of 2008 alone, while Sony had $2+ billion in profit between 1996 and 2008.

Its not entirely accurate to compare two dedicated games divisions with EDD which is a division in itself which bears much of the R+D costs and little of the revenue.

360: 39-42 PS3: 31-34 Wii: 67-70
Future projection
Wii will hit 100 million before christmas 2010 (made december 2008)
NDS Family will have sold and shipped more then PS2 at the end of 2009 (made january 2009)
Anyone else find it a little hard to believe Sony is going to bust out a $100 price cut any time soon?
They're still losing a lot of money as is (even with the profitable PSP) and the company as a whole has been rocked hard by the recession. I don't know if taking even bigger losses is in Sony's game plan right now.
Maybe the reason no one can figure out how much Sony's lost on the PS3 is that no number that big exists yet. dun dunnn!
