Forums - Sony - Redesigned PS3 to be Revealed at E3

Does anyone ever get a suspicion that some of these pre e3 'rumors' could be created by rival companies, in order to lessen or hurt the impact of the other companies e3 announcements. For instance, what if MS knew Sony was no where close to being able to do this, so they figured they'd leak a rumor like this just to disappoint people hoping to see it come to fruition. I know it's far fetched but all these rumors we hear are really to be taken with a grain of salt. I seem to remember David Perry who seems to dislike the PS3 was all but glad to leak info on the new psp awhile back.

One of the main reasons I dislike M$ (not saying they are spreding them, this time). That is exactly the kind of business they do run, confusion!

Playing and finishing games first>>>>>>>>>>Then talking!

Opinions are subjective and just like moods, can change.

TOP 12: Deus Ex, Shadow Man, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturn, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Metroid Prime, Zelda (series), Uncharted (series), FF Tactics, Persona (series), Demons Souls, Vagrant Story.

MOST WANTED: Deus Ex: Human Revolution, The Last Guardian, ICO/Shadow OTC HD

i would only want a new color like a "white or silver" ps3, i hate slimmed down consoles.

My PS3 is a silver one. Although I like the white one better.

OK everyone, there is no redesign of the PS3 at E3, here Sony's response to this rumor

"According to reports, Sony is preparing to make TWO hardware redesign-related announcements, one widely believed to be a new PSP, and the other now speculated to be a (possibly slimmer) redesigned PS3.

Sony UK, however, has told us today: "We currently don't have any plans for a redesigned PS3", so you can throw that one out the window."

Sorry for crushing everyones dreams...(I want a slim PS3 )

@Gilgamesh: And what do they say about those pricecuts, even if one would be coming tomorrow? I think a slim model could improve sales even alone, and then they might actually drop the price at the same time.

But I guess you knew that already.

@jonnhytesta: This year they've either cut the production costs or will do so; been know for a long time now. I believe they're going to be able to cut the costs next fall? Anyway, they started at 90 nm (I think, not sure) and this year's step is 45 nm so it'll be a big difference to the launch. Right now they're using 65 nm I think. I'd say it's about whether 45 nm (half of what it used to be) is enough for a slim model or if it needs to be reduced even more. Does anyone know more of this tech side; my knowledge, albeit I have solid basic knowledge, is pretty limited.

They should take the graphics chip out, scrap wifi capability, take blu-ray out of it, stick batteries in the controllers , make it less reliable, cut the browser and announce they are charging for online play so they can catch up with XBox. This should be called the PS360

Some of their chips are shrinking, but they will have to shrink the size of the blu-ray drive, the motherboard, rearrange things, shrink the cooling system, the hard drive location will need moved, the power supply will need to be external, etc.

I don't think you will be seeing a slim PS3 for at least another year.

If pricecuts are real, they are leaked weeks in advance.  Same with the slim.  We would have a leaked image or something by now if they were revealing slim models at E3.

Nice trolling.  Reported.

Also, the browser isn't necessary, batteries in controller would be a nice option so you don't have to worry about the internal batteries dying and needing your whole controller replaced, wifi for gaming isn't a good idea and should only be used if it is the only option, the 360's GPU is better than the PS3's so it would be much worse than a 360 if they followed your advice.

Charging for online would be a good idea if it meant they could improve things faster and offer more services.  That and help them make a profit for once off of the PS3.

Well, if it's a redesign, that'd probably cost Sony a ton of money, which they can't really spare at the moment... I doubt they'd take that kind of risk, when it's not guaranteed to move more consoles. Also, the price of the system itself would likely be higher if it was somehow redesigned and smaller/more compact.

I'm curious, how do YOU know what they can spare?

Lol @ your question. XD

lol @ your ignorance. how do you know losses from sony arent coming from R&D on slimming down the ps3? in which case the faster they shrink it the faster they stop putting money into R&D giving them more money to make easier profit and would reduce ps3 manufacturing cost wich would give more money... CGI is right you cant possibly know what sony is doing therefor you cant possibly know what sony can spare

are you serious? they took out the emotion engine, 2 usb ports, the memory card ports and adapter, shrunk the RSX and cell both from 90nm to 45nm which takes less power which makes less heat which shrinks the heatsink and fans, and shrunk the blu-ray diode... while they have been using the same chasis the whole time... and you think they need to still do more? which they could also easily make the power brick external. (i also believe a mother board redesign is a necessity after shrinking the chips which would make the mother board smaller )
