Forums - Microsoft - Why is Microsoft killing off PC gaming?

Trying to look at the from Microsoft's perspective, I think they know Vista pretty much failed at replacing XP, especially as a gaming OS.

Probably they will start pushing their games more for their next PC OS. Hopefully this will be more mature and efficient.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Around the Network

The 360 has no exclusives according to most PS3 fans on this site so how can it be stealing them off the PC. In fact all I ever hear about is how most of the 360 titles are on PC too so I don't think you have a point at all. Fable 2, Gears 2, Halo 3, then what else are PC gamers waiting for?

I think that's probably an extreme generalization. The PS3 seems to have well more exclusives released taking equal timeframes as well as with regard to the current known line-up for 2009 and 2010. But that's something else.

You are probably referring to very few anonymous posters. For example don't you consider me a PS3 fan? My take here at VGChartz:

"Regarding exclusives, you need to look at who the publisher is. If the game is published by Microsoft it's likely to stay exclusive for the 360 and those published worldwide by Sony will stay exclusive to the PS3.

Regarding 3rd parties, they are usually multi-platform developers. Thus all the once exclusive best sold 360 games which aren't too old have so far been ported to the PS3 (only exception may be Valve games, as that company is run by an ex Microsoft employee)

Vice versa that's also the case, but a few games may not be ported to the 360 mainly due to technical reasons such as with regard to Metal Gear Solid 4."

I don't care about any of those games so it doesn't bother me. They usually release with shitty controls if they're control ports anyways.

I find it super sad when World of Crapcraft is BY FAR the most successful game on PC... Oh and counterstrike. It's like taking a trip back in time 7 years.

World of Warcraft is BY FAR the most successful game on ANY platform. Not only that, but it is also more successful than the entire MGS, Halo and GTA franchises combined. That's how big WoW is.

World of Warcraft isn't even in the league of franchises that sold over 50 M copies (You can even be cheap and add its sales with the original Warcraft). It is not the most succesful game on any platform. Mario is the have yet to be surpassed with over 200 M copies in its franchise sold, with Pokemon close behind it. The Sims has even sold more copies that WOW, are you kidding me? Half-Life has even outsold the World of Warcraft MMO franchise.

The Sims>WOW>StarCraft>Half Life>Guild Wars>Myth>Counter Strike (PC games)

WOW and Guild Wars are huge because people pay them monthly.

6. Grand Theft Auto (70 million)

7. Madden NFL (70 million)

8. Tetris (70 million)

9. FIFA (65 million)

10. Tom Clancy (55 million, includes Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and Splinter Cell franchises)

Half-Life has outsold WoW

So megadude answer me this.. why is sony killing off pc gaming...they should be releasing all their exclusive top notch games to the pc too. killzone 2 and uncharted would be a nice addition to the pc.

And if you don't answer this post than i know you've been owned and this thread is over.

God I've already explained this a million times: MICROSOFT benefits when people choose WINDOWS over MAC or Leapard or Linux or whatever. More "games for Windows" is in MICROSOFTS interest. Much more so then Sony.

Bullshit...you just don't want to pay for a 360. You first accused Microsoft of trying to get people to pay for PC online when they don't. Secondly, What does games for Windows have to do with Linux or MAC? Why are you so hell bent on Microsoft destroying the 360 by putting its strongest exclusives on PC?....it's obvious why....and my first sentence covers it just fine.

Lol at all the personal attack from X-Bots who are raging for a permaban when you know and I know that they are cutting support for the PC. Since you have absolutely no proof otherwise your calling me a troll. Thats what people do when they hear somthing true that they don't like.

AND GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE WAS NOT ALWAYS FREE THEY TRIED TO CHARGE FOR IT AND FAILED.

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/microsoft-makes-games-for-windows-live-free-for-all/

NOW SOMEONE GIVE ME PROOF THAT MICROSOFT IS NOT CUTTING SUPPORT FOR PC GAMING OR IT IS YOU WHO ARE THE TROLL.

MMMm sweet hardcore pwnage.

And this is probably why so many PS360 games are getting PC releases under the GFW banner. That doesn't mean Microsoft shouldn't support its own console with exclusive games. If PC gaming dies because Fable II isn't ported, then it was already dead to begin with.

A better question is probably, "Why are the very people who claim that PC gaming > all killing off PC gaming by engaging in piracy?"

He needs a reason not to buy a 360, thats all. Case closed.

Of course, but we're talking about copies sold.

You are so wrong. In terms of profit, World of Warcraft no doubt made more money than Halo, GTA and MGS franchises combined!!! We are NOT talking about copies sold because only less than half of WoW costumers buy or need to buy the game.

World of Warcraft is bigger than any console franchise, profit-wise and  popularity-wise.

How has nobody brought up PC piracy yet? The developers and publishers aren't stupid, they know anyone with a gaming PC capable of running the latest release games is all too familiar with bit torrent sites.

They also are starting to know that it doesn't matter whether there's piracy, as long as the games are bought. That is why PC has more being in development than all consoles and handhelds combined.
