you count mgs4 as a shooter but crackdown and dead rising as action ? wut.

If it's about melee you can do that in mgs4 too.

Can't be melee... You can melee in most FPS games as well.

Can't believe you're comparing MGS4 to Crackdown and Dead Rising...  Better to see what he categorized GTAIV and Saints Row.  None of them are really shooters.  MGS is more like Mass Effect (in the fact that there is a large 3rd person shooting element, but not the primary focus of the game), or even more so like Splinter Cell.

There is another interpretation of the data beyond genre. There is no questioning the fact that the 360 has more highly rated games within the genre, and many of these games are among the highest rated on the platform. So are they selling, because they are shooting games, or because they are high quality games.

Halo 3, Gears of War, Gears of War 2, The Orange Box,

All exclusive, and all enjoying a AAA rating according to Gamerankings. So how can we differentiate between quality, and genre. Almost every single highly acclaimed game on the 360 sells millions of copies.

Interesting. I guess I imagine the PC version of Gears and the PS3 version of the Orange Box.

"360 exclusive" automatically means "...and games for windows."

The Orange Box lost me, though...  It's been out for PS3 for ages, but quickly went ot the bargain bins, and I swear I heard it didn't work or something?

The Orange Box on the PS3 plain slipped my mind. Though as others pointed out it was probably an appropriate omission. For the sake of argument let us not even consider them to be the same game, one was great, and the other was just a sad tale in the console wars.

I am not even going to touch the PC/Console exclusivity debate. That is a dead horse that has been beaten into ground chuck.

But....... they are the same game.

the only reason xbox 360 could be termed the "shooter console" is because it is more popular than the ps3 in America. Shooter games are very popular in America and sell really well.

This is something Sony is trying to fix obviously, as they have more shooter games than the 360 does. However, with their lower install base in america, their games don't sell as much as the 360 exclusives do.

Fact of the matter is, Sony and Microsoft are pretty equal in FPS games made, the xbox games only sell more because microsoft has over twice as many consoles sold in America.

It's not really a matter of which console base is more varied, it's a matter of what the regional preferances of games are.
America = shooters
Europe = Racing
Japan = RPG's

lol, dead rising has like 4 guns, when the vast majority of your gameplay is melee and you only shoot guns every now and then, then yes it is an action. The guns all suck in that game anyway, it's all about the drill :)

Crackdown should be classified as a sandbox, not an action game.

Mgs4 is a stealth action game... barely.  They emphasized the shooting aspect in that game a lot more than previously, but yeah, it is still stealth action.

So your reasoning for not counting the ps3 version is that it's far inferior to the x360 version? You could easily make the same argument then by saying the x360 version is far inferior (badly gimped, infact) compared to the pc version, and as such doesn't count either.

@ameratsu

Not excusing shit I just plain forgot that it even existed. My comments were tongue in cheek. That many PS3 owners would have probably preferred that the poor port they received had not existed. A lot of PS3 owners would simply rather forget about it themselves. Pretend that it had not happened.

It is called humor. I mean it is like the exclusive Microsoft lost until the reviews came out. Then it was an exclusive Microsoft really did not lose. Though I do feel shitty for PS3 owners when done right it was a really good game.
