Sony expects first loss in 14 years amid downturn...

The gaming devision experienced the biggest losses with a whopping operating income drop of 97% while sales decreased by 32.2% compared to last year.

It had originally expected a 150 billion yen profit. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters are forecasting a 174 billion yen loss for the fiscal year through March. Sony is projecting a 13 percent drop in yearly sales to 7.7 trillion yen compared with the previous year.

The future looks very dim for the once legendary console maker. You can count out any price drops and if PS4 ever exists it will be more like the Wii of this generation as the business model the Ps3 followed is terribly broken.

I doubt that the PS4 will be like the Wii of this generation! Sony would be better not making a console at all since that is not what the Playstation brand is all about!

Sony will have come through worse, and with the Yen getting better they should be in a better situation this financial year and also all these losses were made before the restructuring that has taken place in the last few months!

If the PS4 gets made then most likely it will be very much like the wii. Nintendo proved without a doubt that the strategy works. Sony and Microsoft now are forced to act in a similar way. Or they will face a another defeat with the next generation.

Why would the Playstation brand be dead?  Why wouldn't Sony sell the brand to Apple, for example?  I see this happening before the Playstation brand ends up disappearing.
