Forums - Gaming - $30 million offered for Duke Nukem rights

So with 3D Realms ending last Friday, much of the insider info regarding the project is starting to leak out. From what we hear, publisher Take-2 Interactive offered $30 million to George Broussard in an effort to acquire the IP rights to the Duke Nukem franchise, although it is unclear if this includes the work that was already completed on Duke Nukem Forever.

Our sources tell us that Broussard turned down the offer to sell the franchise, and instead spoke with several other publishers, including id Software, Epic, Electronic Arts and even Microsoft in an effort to secure additional funding to complete the project.

From what we hear, Duke Nukem Forever is not completed, but we also hear Broussard is continuing to shop for money; but this could prove to be problematic, as Take-2 Interactive does still hold the publishing rights to the game.

As we said the other day, the future is unclear for the game. What we do know from our sources is that the last chapter may not have been written in the Duke Nukem Forever saga.

MS buying 3D Reals is more likely now... hmm.

EA should buy Duke Nukem franchise and bring Duke Nukem games to all platforms.

Duke nukem should be developed for a Nintendo system, the code sold to Microsoft, and have the publishing rights held by Take-2. This way, it would go down in history as not only taking forever to produce, but never being released for the same reason 007 will never be released again.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Wow I cant believe people still care....

Id take the money and run. =P

a good number of people have cared for 13 yrs

Oh man 3D Realms is gone???? I remember a few years back when Max Payne came out. I completely wrote off the game because it look pretty unrealistic with the bullet time and all that. I then tried it out on a friends computer and I was instantly hooked. Then I was like oh 3D Realms made this game? I didn't even know. I ended up beating the game at his house a few days before he even got a chance to finish the game himself.

Did Duke Nukem Forever kill 3D Realms?

What the hell ever happened to Max Payne?

You must be pretty young to not understand why everyone loves this game.  I remember playing this game for hours and hours, over and over.  It was the first of its kind really and that is why I loved it so.  A smartass character who liked tits and ass had never been done at that point in time (@least to my knowledge).

That being said, I think the owner of the franchise needs to just let it go.  Take the money and run like you said,  just sell it to someone who can finish it who will not cut any corners on the final product.  Let the Duke be unleashed on an entirely new generation of people.
