VG Chartz provides tools for data analysis and charting. Regular written analysis of the data referencing major news in the video gaming industry is provided. News organizations such as BBC, Forbes, Fortune, The New York Post, Yahoo and The New York Times have used VG Chartz for sales data in their publications.

Do you trust VGChartz accuracy in gaming sales??

Do you think there should be better sources of information and how can they improve it??

yes i do love this site.

and i do trust the numbers(mostly)

We've had many statements directly from developers saying that our numbers for their games are highly accurate. Even the big three use us for hardware sales numbers.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Yes I do. Brett is a psychic.

VGChartz is my favorite website on the whole internetz.

I trust the numbers almost always, they're right way more than they're wrong

we have an awesome community of gamers from all different viewpoints.

I trust VGC to be in the ballpark, although not accurate. What I mean by that is I pretty much know they are going to be close enough where the difference in reality is not too much to gripe about. Meaning they are well calculated and formulated numbers that are not mere guesses and estimates of reality. However, I do see other tracking agencies such as GFK, NPD, and Media Create as better sources for numbers HOWEVER NOT THE LAW. They, like VGC, I expect to put me in the ballpark, not completely accurate. I think for some things we track better and others they track better but by compiling and adapting to all numbers we are put so close in the ballpark that we are almost completely accurate.

I hope we do continue to expand our sources and possibly take this further. Basically, Brett, ya got something that can be something big. Capitalize on it. You are the one that has NPD scared at your potential. Take advantage of it and you can have them so much more than scared haha. Ways I can see improvement is to continue to gather more sources and numbers and hire some more people to help you out.

I'm gonna just say that it's accurate enough. If Super Mario Galaxy has sold 8.01M or 7.36M, does it really matter? Sure, it's better to have completely accurate numbers, but it doesn't really matter. You can't really see something of a trend depending on whether it sold 7.36M or 8.01M.

The only thing that is lacking, is European numbers. Not having them on certain games makes you wonder "did it sell 475K with Europe numbers, or 700K with Europe numbers?". That's a large difference. All in all, games that have data from the all the big 4 areas have accurate enough data.

When I write Fact: in one part of the post, and opinion: (or a similar word), it's not because I can then say "my opinion can't be wrong". It is to inform what part is pure facts, and which part I try to draw a conclusion in.
