History is really important in this market. If you can create a new audience and sustain them, you will win. The arcade did it, Atari brought 'em home, Nintendo did it, Sony did it, and Nintendo did it again.

Sony is bleeding money as a direct result of launching a console that costs too much for the average consumer. History predicted that would happen too. $500 game systems have never made money before.

I take it you think that after some price cuts the PS3 will pick up steam and last longer than the Wii or at least longer than the 360?

Aside from the Wii..Im happy that the Gen war will be decided by Software.....and again...I don't see 3rd party "Next gen" games being ported to older Gen system when the 360 and PS3 are the older Gen (Ok maybe capcom will..But then Again stuff Like DEAD RISING Chop till you drop was a swing at money)

The Wii sells due to software as well.  People just like to ignore that because the new software that's creating and sustaining and expanding the new market is Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and Mario Kart Wii.  People aren't buying Wiis to use them as coasters.

@ Rubang - its just a price cut, if SONY can keep what there doing this year all threw PS3 life I can definitely see PS3 lasting, but Zizzla has a point about a early PS4 and the willingness to support 7th gen ports

Once the new generation lanches the third party dev. aren't going to invest some 30 million on a thrid place console with the smallest userbase. The wii will be like the PS2. All the others will get next to nothing.

Why would any third party dev. spend that kind of money when the wii is at least 50% cheaper and has the largest installbase which dwarfs the two others. People, think. That makes no sense.

The PS3 is a fine console and a very good bargain for what it delivers. But it is the GC of this generation. Nintendo dropped it like a brick, so will Sony. It sucks but what are you going to do about it.

Sony redefines history, however this time around things won't go according to plan.

Yes I understand that the Wii sells becuase of it's sofware but that why I wanted to put the Wii aside...Most of the Wii Software is only on the Wii and/or developed for the Wii only...Not due to Hardware limitations or anything like that...it's just a different selling point..While some games do share mutal releases across all three current gen platforms..The Wii's software lineup is still mostly dedicated to what nintendo has Outlined......Next gen 3rd party games are more commonly consired stuff Assassins Creed and COD4, madden 10..While the Ps3 and 360 share the same versions..The Wii get's their version of Madden and a few other stuff..

SONY is really persistent with the 10 year plan

After PS2 sells through next March it will have lasted 10 years.  It already has more games than the GameCube and XBox combined, and is estimated to have 1900 games by the end of the year.

You think PS3 will be selling in November 2016?  How many games will it have by then?  Right now it has the fewest games out of the 3 major systems.

In November 2016 making a game for the PS3 will make as much business sense as making new XBox and GameCube games today.  It doesn't happen.  Even with price cuts.  Price cuts didn't save the GameCube, and it was even the cheapest system last generation.

"People just like to ignore that because the new software that's creating and sustaining and expanding the new market is Wii Sports, Wii Fit,'

Key phrase from Rubang here...the Wii is considered by some a "reincarnation of the NES", though much of the NES´s success was due to Mario Bros, a 2D platformer most people played alone...while the "Wii´s Mario Bros" became Wii Sports, which most people play socially (I imagine)...maybe a lot of gamers feel somewhat 'threatened' by the emphasis on social gaming.

It's pretty obvious that i was talking about when the PS3 is last generation (see the highlighting). If and when the PS4 launches.

What consoles of the last generation are getting games and why? That's not the xbox and GC. Wel that's for the reasons i just mentioned.

You think that Over 9 million people playing Halo 3 together are "threatened" by social gaming?
