Forums - Sony - What the Hell is going on?

sometimes all you have to do is rebuild and is works fine after that.

From what I've gathered around the net, if it then asks you to reformat, DON'T DO IT.

Apparently nothing is proven to work after that. Reformat may not fix anything, but you WILL lose your data. When it asks to reformat, simply hit "no", and then reset. Hopefully you will be able to access your data again, at which point I would suggest backing up your data onto your computer HD, and following the steps to remove, reinstall, reformat, and restore all the data. These steps are found with a quick google.

So i watched kind kong last night on my ps3. I turned it off the way i alway turn it off with my ps3 controller and now i go to turn it on today to try out flock. But with i go to turn it on it says HDD Must Reform Database or something like that so then i hit okay and now it says "in order to do so ps3 must format your hdd". Is this a joke? am i really about to lose all my saved data and everything i have been putting on my playstation since Novemember 2007?

Seriously, any help would be great although i doubt there is any.

I will not be starting any of my games over again. I will probably just sell my playstation now. This is bullshit

I tried to hit no and restart it like 10 times but still the same thing came up. Its working fine now but i did lose everything. Trying to install the 20 games and 1000 songs i had on it again now. and when it went to re-form the database it always said error must reformat hdd

well, this kind of shit can happen with every hdd
sectors(usually with the size of some KBs) on the hdd break all the time and if you're unlucky a sector with important data on it breaks and makes the OS go haywire

I guess in this case the PS3 couldn't boot it's OS properly anymore and hence demanded to reformat the hdd in order to be able to install the OS anew.

You could have tried to connect your PS3s hdd to another PS3(although I heard that every PS3 uses an individual passcode to protect the hdd from being accessed by a different PS3) via usb to try to copy some of the savegames

Hmm.. yea, then it likely wouldn't have worked.

But now that I think it about there might have been a way, if you had removed the hdd and installed a new one in your PS3 and then had connected your old hdd to the PS3.

The next time I hear of someone with a similar problem I'll try and suggest to do it that way.
