The latest hardware figures for Japan have been released by Media Create for the week ending 5/3 and Sony continues to dominate. The latest figures reveal that the PSP came top selling approximately 49,557 units, followed closely by the DSi. The PlayStation 3 continued it's dominance over other home consoles shifting approximately 23,588 units last week. Full hardware run-down below:

So once Vg's japan numbers come in, do not be surprised to see PS3 outsell the Wii again. How long do you guys think this will continue for?

I expected it to stop last week.

This could continue up untill WSR, although i doubt even that will give a big boost in HW.

It's going back down for the PS3, but until Nintendo give JP gamers a new piece of software they can drool over (for 15 minutes) I don't see them selling any more than they have been the last few weeks

why is PSP so high? or is that just DS being low?

@SJ, PSP is always high in Japan

Note DS and DSi are shown separately in that list, so VGC will have the DS(all) over the PSP by a decent margin. So it's really situation normal in the handheld market.

It would seem that PS3 and Wii will be tracking evenly for the foreseeable future and only in the week or 3 after a major game release will the benefiting system get a significant temporary jump on the other.

If PS3 drops its price without Wii dropping in response then PS3 is likely to establish a consistent weekly lead. Wii is also going to hit market saturation eventually.

That's what I call dominance!
