Forums - Sales - CAPCOM to Lean on PS3 for Software Sales.

The latest financial report from Capcom revealed that they will be leaning on the Playstation 3 for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

The third-party company expects to sell a combined 4.9 million software units with 10 new Playstation 3 titles plan for the fiscal year of 2009-2010. This is way higher than the previous year in which the eight Capcom games on the Playstation 3 sold a combined 1.75 million units.

In comparison, Capcom expects the Xbox 360 to sell 4.55 million units of software with 11 new titles during the same period. Despite having more new titles (14) than the other two the Nintendo Wii is only predicted to sell 2.20 million units, which seems a little low since Monster Hunter 3 should be released before March 31st 2010.

Interesting. PSP gave Capcom the most sales last year. PS3 > 360 in Capcom sales last year too.

I find it interesting that the biggest games from Capcom that have been announced yet aren't going to the Ps3 at all. Monster Hunter 3 and Lost Planet 2. x.o

Something has to be big. No other reason why they'd expect some much from it!

Perhaps Devil May Cry is going back to Sony exclusive land again...

Either that or another Street Fighter. I can't think of another big Capcom franchise they that would expect PS3 > 360 sales in.

What about Resident Evil? Aren't they trying to make an all new series on the RE franchise?

Haha, Monster Hunter 3 (not tri) is coming back!

Hmm Capcom games tend to sell sligthly better on PS3 than on X360  so I expect 10 multiplatforms.

Also isn't the total number insanly small ?  SF IV and RE5 on ps3 have >3M units sold so 4.9M from 10 titles would indicate there won't be more than 1 high profile game (DMC5?) released in this timeframe.

Seems odd to me, too. Maybe they don't expect much from Bionic Commando and Dark Void. The rest of those games could be downloadables.

Sounds really odd...anyone have a list of the games on each platform Capcom is releasing this fiscal year?

hmm. Bionic Commando and Dark Void seem like they'd have an equal chance of selling decently on both system. I don't see either creating a gap. The main reason Capcom is thriving on the PS3 is that Japan + Others > US. If you take games taht don't necessarily appeal to one of the two markets, then you take away the advantage. That's just my perception of it all. The DL thing could be true though. I have heard they were going to add a lot of games to the PSN (which btw, we finally now have the second spyro game from the PS1 on the PSN...which makes me happy).

This makes a whole lot of sense!

Maybe people should first check the real source instead of immediately relying on these kind of sources. The information he refers to isn't from the latest financial results Capcom released today, but was last updated on February 27 2009. I actually have a feeling the 2009 column is referring to the fiscal year which ended at the end of March. That would mean the almost 5 million for PS3 and 4.5 million for 360 includes the sales of RE 5 and SF 4 and the 2.2 million for Wii isn't including Monster Hunter 3.
