EDIT: FFXII IS DEMO IS COMING FOR BOTH PS3 AND 360!

A Blu-ray demo of the game was bundled with the release of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete in Japan last month, a move that contributed to a quadrupling of PS3 sales.

Square Enix producer Yoshinore Kitase commented to videogamer.com “The type of demo version we released in Japan, we currently have no plan of doing that abroad, partly because we are going to carry on with the project alongside the Xbox version, so we really can’t just make it available only for the PS3.  But we hear that the demo version normally means something that you can download in the West, so that is a possibility we would like to check.”

Kitase also explained that a PS3-exclusive demo would be unfair to the Western audience that’s also expecting an Xbox 360 demo.

Supposedly this will be a 5GB demo for PSN/XBL, but downloading a file of that size would take forever, not to mention it would be extremely expensive for Square Enix, considering publishers have to pay for bandwidth costs on the PlayStation Network.

Well, 5 GB download would only take me an hour or two, relative to the speeds I've seen on PSN.

5gb doesn't seem so bad... I have FiOS, though, sooo....

dude, where do you live?  the psn download speeds are terrible here.  5gb's would take me like a week to download.  something that is only a 100 megs usually takes me an hour.  I have a 12mbs connection, and my xbox downloads fine so I know it is the psn.  However, people tell me that download speeds are better based on location.  Here in the U.S. it apparently blows.

ot:  I'm sure it wouldn't be a 5g download.  They would compress it down, they didn't have to compress anything when it was on a blu ray disc.  However, even psn demo's are compressed to reduce the bandwith and dl times.  If this happens, it wouldn't only end up being about a gig.
