Forums - Gaming - Multiplatform casual games sell more on HD than Wii

@OP nothing you listed is "casual" ...casual games are on a league of their own crap.

Around the Network

You cannot use bundled games to compare, unless they were bundled in ALL consoles. This is not a statement of total sales for a specific software, this is a comparison on which platform the game sold better.

Thank you! I was beginning to think that I had entered the twilight zone...

Didn't you get the memo? You seem to be using last generation's definition of "casual". The "hardcore" gamers got together at the start of this generation and changed it. "Casual" now means mini-game compilation...or was it games with simple controls...or was it cartoony games...or was it games with low difficulty? I can't remember. They keep changing the definition to fit their current argument.

Wow. Majin is showing serious signs of denial.

Very interesting comparison. King-Fu Panda is the one that surprises me the most though. I would have expected the 360 and Wii sales numbers to be the reverse of what they are.

... BUNDLED. WHAT IS IT YOU ARE NOT GETTING? Dear lord, it's like talking to TWO brick walls. Four games on the list are HEAVILY BUNDLED on the 360. One other was released A FULL YEAR later on the Wii. Honestly, I'm not the one in denial here.

Easy there champ.  Take a deep breath and put the caps lock down.

As a side note, means of sales do not matter.  Only the end numbers.  This argument has already been beaten to death (mostly concerning Wii Sports).

You are right and wrong.

Means of sales do not matter to the developer. Kung Fu Panda was more successful for the 360 than it was for the Wii. It not only made more money but it reached a larger audience. I agree with that. It is in the same line of thinking to say that Wii Sports is very successful for Nintendo. It has reached a huge audience.

But do HD owners really represent a larger casual userbase? Saying this would be akin to saying that Japanese don't like Wii Sports as much as the rest of the world because it has a lower attach ratio there.

Does the fact that you're searching for new games to prove your point mean that you submit to the fact that Lego Indiana Jones, Kung Fu Panda, Sega Superstar Tennis, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Rock Band shouldn't be counted?

^you are welcome.

I knew that they were going to use the "wii sports is bundled" argument to this thread.

"¿Por qué justo a mí tenía que tocarme ser yo?"

As Majin has said, bundles like that don't count (at least comparing game to game.... they should for the most part count towards total software)

Let's look at the games in question:

Kung Fu Panda:
http://www.vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Kung+Fu+Panda+-+Wii&reg2=All&game2=Kung+Fu+Panda+-+PS3&reg3=All&game3=Kung+Fu+Panda+-+X360&weeks=80

Lego Indy:
http://www.vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Lego+Indiana+Jones%3A+The+Original+Adventures+-+Wii&reg2=All&game2=Lego+Indiana+Jones%3A+The+Original+Adventures+-+PS3&reg3=All&game3=Lego+Indiana+Jones%3A+The+Original+Adventures+-+X360&weeks=80

Sega Tennis:
http://www.vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Sega+Superstars+Tennis+-+Wii&reg2=All&game2=Sega+Superstars+Tennis+-+PS3&reg3=All&game3=Sega+Superstars+Tennis+-+X360&weeks=80

Marvel Ultimate Alliance:
http://www.vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Marvel%3A+Ultimate+Alliance+-+Wii&reg2=All&game2=Marvel%3A+Ultimate+Alliance+-+PS3&reg3=All&game3=Marvel%3A+Ultimate+Alliance+-+X360&weeks=150

As you can see, the X360 versions were trending below the Wii until they were bundled..... Bundles can make a big differene to the sales of the specific bundled game... Wii Sports is an odd one because it is helping the system as much as the system helps it.... but if it were not bundled then at best it would only be around where Wii Fit is at the moment, perhaps a bit higher but not much.

Marvel at least was doing better on the X360 before the bundle anyway, although in part that was due to the Wii and PS3  being launched after the game came out on the X360.... so there was barely any userbase for either Wii or PS3 owners to be picking it up... and multi console owners who are fans would have bought it on X360 considering it came out a few weeks earlier.

Casual is not a bad thing. Guitar Hero is definitely casual. I have played it in groups with people who never play video games. Not only can they understand it, they have fun.

Of course you can be a hardcore GH player, but the game itself is the pinacle of casual.

By the way, the "casual" definition here is taken out of context. The best argument would be "multiplatform games sell better on the HD consoles" . Now then your argument has some merit.
