Forums - Gaming - Multiplatform casual games sell more on HD than Wii

I'm going to define casual in this post as music games, sports games, movie/tv games. Games that non-gamers would recognise outside of gaming. Guitars, football, star wars etc.

I've used the best sellers and the combined multi-platform sales are all above 2.5M.

Guitar Hero 3

360 - 4.22M,  PS3 - 1.89M,       Wii - 4.19M

Lego Indy

360 - 3.28M,  PS3 - 0.52M,       Wii - 1.18M

Kung Fu Panda

360 - 2.86M,  PS3 - 0.37M,       Wii - 0.69M

Marvel Ultimate Alliance

360 - 2.45M,  PS3 - 0.27M,       Wii - 0.35M

Madden 08

360 - 2.41M,  PS3 - 0.92M,       Wii - 0.93M

RockBand

360 - 2.30M,  PS3 - 0.83M,       Wii - 1.30M

Madden 09

360 - 2.28M,  PS3 - 1.58M,       Wii - 0.84M

Sega Superstar Tennis

360 - 1.98M,  PS3 - 0.25M,       Wii - 0.86M

GuitarHero WT

360 - 1.95M,  PS3 - 1.18M,       Wii - 2.90M (Wii wins this one)

Lego Star Wars

360 - 1.14M,  PS3 - 0.69M,       Wii - 2.53M (Wii wins this one too)

Fifa 09

360 - 1.81M,  PS3 - 2.14M,       Wii - 0.64M (PS3 wins this one)

Star Wars Unleashed

360 - 1.67M,  PS3 - 1.16M,       Wii - 1.24M

I was actually quite suprised by these numbers. Given the huge install base of the Wii I expected it to have much higher sales, especially for games aimed at children like Kung Fu Panda.

Should 3rd parties consider keeping the casual games to the HD consoles?

Does the Wii have more core gamers than 360/PS3?

Lego Indy, Kung Fu Panda, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance(which I wouldn't call casual) and Sega Superstars Tennis were all heavily bundled on 360...

Do your research.

EDIT: Also, Rock Band was released about a year later on Wii.

I just eliminated half of your list. Feeling pretty good about myself.

EDIT 2: What the flying fuck? How is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed a casual game?

i knew the wii is a hardcore console while ps360 are for casuals.

What is there left in my life to cling onto my manlihood?!

My 360 no longer helps define me as who I wish to be!

All is lost!

You are counting bundled games for the 360. If you are going to do a fair comparison those games should not be included. Now I know we include wii sports in overall sales, but here you are talking about multiplatform games, and unless they were bundled in all consoles, they should not be used for comparison purposes.

Basically, all you have is "Sports games sell better on the 360/PS3 than on the Wii", something we already knew. Well, for major sports franchises like Madden and such, anyway.

Under what defintition are Marvel, Force Unleashed or the Lego-games casual?

Well the Wii comes with the greatest casual game of all time, and the Wii has better exclusive casual games, like Wii Fit, Carnival Games, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, rail shooters, brain trainers, and Rayman Raving Rabbids (exclusive controls and exclusive success).

So these multiplatform "casual" games have fierce competition on the Wii.

Wii owns casual gaming. Didn't you get the memo?

The only thing that your data shows is that most of those games sold to a point on the PS3 that they barely recovered from Sony licensing fees, and likely saw no profit once manufacturing costs were factored in.

The data shows that the XB360 and the Wii are the viable, profiting platforms. Don't lump the HD consoles together without factoring the individual expenses. Just because a game is on the 360 doesn't make it free to produce for the PS3. There are hefty costs involved with porting a game over.

Do your research. I know they were bundled, a sale is sale.

I just eliminated half of your list. Feeling pretty good about myself. If you eliminate the whole list you get a trophy and achievement.

EDIT 2: What the flying fuck? How is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed a casual game? The Star Wars name is what sold it. You can't get more casual than Star Wars.
