I will repeat by the way that according to this guy the research group is saying the Wii will still outsell the PS3 in hardware in 2009.

In all seriousness that was actually a very well thought out response and I appreciate your honesty and patience. I wish more were as well spoken as yourself on these forums. However Analyst track records can be taken into account of their credibility showing trends in whether to follow their insight or not, we should be mindful of these trends as ignoring them could lead us into a brick wall down the road. But if this is solely an opinion agreeing with an opinion, I cannot fault you for that and appologize for my earlier insinuation.

To pass the 360 will take a pretty significant boost in sales. To pass the Wii will take a freakin miracle (IMHO). Even if the PS3 starts selling more per month than the Wii in 2008-2009, it still may not be able to overtake it because of the immense head start the Wii will have in sales numbers by that time.

Didn't most of these analysts a year ago predict the PS3 to be ahead right now? I don't think they are very good at long range forecasting, as it involves mostly personal opinion rather than hard data.

I wouldn't predict it would happen but I can see a scenario where the 360 gets passed late next year or early 2009 by the PS3. If (note I said IF) the 360 essentially sold to the original Xbox base quicker this time round then sales will begin to noticeably drop next year. If (again with the IF) that happens while the PS3 continues to sell ok in all 3 regions then it could pass the 360 in the next 12-18 months.

The PS3 will never pass the Wii in sales and I have no problem predicting that one.

I posted one of DFC's predictions from 2005.  They predicted best case scenarios: PS3 no more than 50%, Xbox360 no more than 40%, Nintendo Revolution (name at the time) no more than 35% marketshare.  They apparently felt it would go PS3 > Xbox360 > Wii in sales.  (See my previous post in this thread)

So all of you guys say the ps3 will not pass the wii in sales!
