The PS3 will likely lead by 2009. Im pretty sure anyone who loves gaming will want one eventually, since the price will only come down. Its safe to say that alot of Wii60 owners are simply just waiting for price and more games.

I dont think it will be a very dominating lead though, well definitely not like last generation.

For those who think the PS3 will pass the 360 anytime in 2008 you must love the alternate reality you live requiring absolutely no logic or statistical analysis of current trends or numbers. Someone has a sig on here that shows what would need to take place for that to happen...basically the 360 would have to completely stop selling while the ps3 moves something like 300,000 consoles a month, or something along those lines. Its good to see your loves for the sony brand, but it is always nice to be somewhat sensible when making predictions.

I don't know about it turning around by the time the price gets low people will have already picked up something else
why didn't other hardware turn around as it got really cheap, the dreamcast, the gamecube, people tend to stick by their decisions

Who has said that the ps3 will pass up the 360 in total sales in '08?   The boldest thing I've heard is that the ps3 will start outselling the 360 in '08, but that it won't pass it up until late '09 at the earliest.

Nice, this fits with my prediction that PS3 won't pass 360 in 2008. Oh and Hus, 360 may get passed in 2009, but it will NEVER pass Wii.

That's just how analysts and researchers are taught how to talk.  Like seriously it's the first thing they teach you in statistics classes, you use phrases like "Could" or "the data shows that it's likely" you never use definitives because there is no such thing as knowing something 100% no matter how sure you are of it.

Again I reiterate my point as it still stands valid...

First you people said the PS3 would dominate in 2006 when it was released, then you said it would dominate in 2007 when the games came out, then you said it would dominate in 2008 ("the year of the PS3") and now its been pushed back to 2009. The real question now is whether 2010 will become the latest projected date for domination before or after this Christmas holiday season.

I easily see this prediction game someday turn into people claiming the PS3 won't hit its stride until the next gen when its compentition release their next-gen successors because the PS3 had already established a stronghold during this generation.

This is me making an empty post to show the chunk of my sig that details just how huge a boost in sales the PS3 would need to pass either the 360 or Wii by 2009.

To beat the 360 by 1/1/2009, a 096.2% increase is required.  This means getting right up next to Wii-level sales.
To beat the Wii by 1/1/2009, a 246.3% increase is required.  This means an unprecedented amount of sales per month to catch up. 

IMHO, the PS3 is the only next gen console that has the lasting power, for the entire generation.

2009 is a more realistic year for the 360 to fall into 3rd. But the Wii will still be in 2st by a country mile.

2008, the PS3 will start selling much more units compared to 2007. Sales in Japan and Europe will by far eclipse comparable 360 sales. NA is where is will be hard for the PS3, but they will start selling similar number of units if not more than the 360 next year. Once the PS3 hits $399 in NA, this will turn the tide IMHO towards Sony. By 2009, I can see the PS3 being closer to $299.

Also don't forget, the PS3 has much bigger games coming in 2008 than the 360.

I've always thought that the 360 will be last this generation. But reckon final sales of the Wii and PS3 will be close.
