Is there a way I can install W7 without getting rid of Vista?

@SNesboy - just use a free partition tool to use some of your free HD space to make a partition for W7, then run the W7 install disc from inside Vista. It'll ask you where to install it to. Sent via PM as well

Munkeh, and anyone else who needs/wants it -

Here's a free partition tool, works well, very easy to use.

For those who have Windows Vista, it includes a partition manager:

I hated Vista, but I love Windows 7. It really is quite responsive, efficient and intuitive.

I'm not a fanboy, I just try to tip the balance in favor of logic and common sense.

I am downloading it to try it out on VirtualPC. Mostly because I am making some applications and I want to see if they're compatible.

Forget about VirtualPC, it's slow as crap. Try Sun VirtualBox (http://www.virtualbox.org), it's free as well and in my experience it's MUCH faster than MS VirtualPC.

I'll give it a try

I've just installed the Windows 7 RC as the primary OS on one of my laptops. I actually think it runs faster than XP did on the same hardware, pretty impressive. I absolutely LOVE this OS so far. I've tried Ubuntu and OSX, and this is definitely my favorite overall.

So I've downloaded it, but as I have never done dual booting before, could somebody help me a bit.

Now, I have partitioned my HDD splitting of a 20GB section for Windows 7, which I am going to increase to 30GB. Firstly, I have now split of a spare 10GBs of my HDD, but it won't let me extend the Windows 7 volume (A), any reason why? (I have plenty of space left, there is no problem there)

Also, I have to reinstall my programmes on Windows 7? Assuming I do, that does mean to Empire Total War for me (it takes up 15GB!!!), so I will have to download firefox again, but will I be able to copy across my favourites from my Vista account?

Lastly, it says my graphics card does not support Aero, but can I assume this is just a temporary issue and can be fixed with an update?

Thanks for any help

after you partition the drive and install windows 7, you just need to install directx and video drivers. then open my computer click on the drive with vista go to program files and click on the folder with empire and run the executable. if you have the steam version go to the steam folder and run steam and you should be able to play.

Well I tried to install 64 bit release on my PC last night, and I ran into a few problems :( problem after first reboot and completing installation causes a crash and reboot.

I think after some looking over internet forums, I may be able to try again tonight (or maybe the weekend will give me enough time to play around with it).

do you know what happened, were you doing a clean install or an upgrade?
