This is all just common sense. The PS4 was always gonna happen and it was always going to be after 5 to 6 years. Tho, most have been assuming that SONY will make it a little earlier this time to beat the others and also to have it at a better price with re-used PS3 hardware that is suped up. All makes sense. Will do them good to be 1st this time, too, and they can pull it off swiftly with the revised PS3 hardware being used.

Bring on PS4!

Do we actually need a new machine 2x as powerful as the PS3??

We don't even need a machine as power asd the PS3 is now.

Well 2012 would be 6 years after the PS3 so it makes sense PS1 was released in 94, PS2 2000 and PS3 in 2006

A $200 price wouldn't be out of the question, by 2012 the technology will be really cheap,I mean it's the first time sony will launcha console with the same basic procesor and disc drive (Wii anyone?)as the previous generation and I think Sony will turn a 180 and make it cheap and affordable from the start, even if they have to sell it at a loss again.

 

Yes, yes it would be out  of the question. The PS3 may still have SKUs at or above $200 by 2012... there's no way a new system would launch at that price.

This shouldn't really be a rumor. The big companies always say they start working on whatever the next piece of hardware is, shortly after the previous one launches. As such, while 2012 might be early for it's actual release(who knows), I have little doubt that Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo are already working on R&D for whatever their next console's will be.

I am certain this is no rumor. The motion controls people are expecting to be announced for the PS3 are actually prototypes for the PS4. Whoever the "source" was for PS3 motion control rumors apparently mistook what they saw, not realizing they were looking at early PS4 control design.
