This shouldn't really be a rumor. The big companies always say they start working on whatever the next piece of hardware is, shortly after the previous one launches. As such, while 2012 might be early for it's actual release(who knows), I have little doubt that Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo are already working on R&D for whatever their next console's will be.
The only teeth strong enough to eat other teeth.
