More importantly...

What the fuck is she wearing?

It appears to be some sort of Xbox 360-cum-dress which is displaying the fabled non-red ring.

Also i agree with the Op actually.

I wonder if it has occurred to anyone in this thread that these advertisements are directed at a market with different cultural values. What is unacceptable in one culture is often viewed as acceptable in another culture. So I would ask this question is this advertising typical or atypical of advertising in Japan. That is all that matters, because frankly the majority of us are not who this advertising is geared towards.

Anyone remember the goat gate incident? Remember the dichotomy of response. On one side you had outrage, and on the other you had total disinterest. That was the product of environment. Those involved with animal husbandry were totally disinterested, but people who largely lived in metropolitan centers were incensed. With what they viewed as animal abuse, and morbidity.

Do not just assume that your sense of fair play it the same sense that is prevalent in Japanese culture. We need to ask Japanese members whether this is proper for their region. Who are we to judge based on how the advertiser is treating them. What can I say I live in a country where its totally proper to depict a guy mowing down a hundred people with a chain gun, but if he drops his pants that is a crime against decency. Once you see your cultural foibles you start to understand that there are differences.

Misleading title and article. It's obviously been written by a Sony fanboy. Just look at the article, "No exclusives to talk of this year Microsoft?" This pamphlet speaks the truth. Why buy a PS3 over a 360 when the 360 has the edge in multiplats.

Pricing - I can buy BioShock at a cheaper price for the 360, and the 360 one has no install and looks better. One or two new characters doesn't justify paying for full price when you can essentially buy the same game on the 360 at a cheaper price (looking at ToV).

Let's not forget all 360 games have achievements, and some have better framerate, resolution, exclusive DLC and no mandatory installs.

And to top it off, there's a kawaii character on the cover to grasp the Japanese gamers' interest. Microsoft is such a brilliant company.

The Problem is that According to the Kotaku translation the Catalog does not call the PS3 lesser than the Xbox 360..what it wants to do is say that MultiPlatform games would give a better experience on the 360...Something that has been a Debate in America for some time now....and your Analogy is confusing.....

This site is justtrying to spark a fire over this catalouge and re assure it viewrs about what their alingment is...

I Personally only think that trying to push the 360 Arcade sales with this comparison is useful while the Tales Reference is down right stupid....But this site that OP qouted is being a cry baby

Outside the fact to know who the advertising is geared towards, Japanese people aren't less patriotic than say American people and don't particularily appreciate when foreign companies try to belittle their products...

As for the article not calling PS3 lesser than Xbox 360 I think "Xbox360 > PS3" is pretty universally understandable and even if it's not overtly said in the advertising, it's implied and not very subtly at that.

Take free! This "Xbox 360 super catalogue" is being distributed at Japanese retailer Messe Sanoh. Don't be fooled by the cute Xbox 360 console character, it's good old fashioned propaganda.

The cover reads, "Xbox 360 over PS3 if you are picking multi-platform games." At the bottom of this pamphlet, there's the Xbox 360 console line up — with little quips about each console. For example, next to the Xbox 360 Arcade, it reads, "Half the PS3's price!"

The catalogue's inside lists multi-platform likes like previous Xbox 360 exclusive Tales of Vesperia and then points out why the Xbox 360 version is better. According to this, those reasons are things like pricing, Xbox LIVE and Achievements. (Hey, it's got stellar HDD installs!)

This is why Microsoft suck

@Videogirl

Americans really could care less. What one company says about another foreign or domestic. The vast majority do not carry over patriotism to corporate enterprises. We are just not that nationalistic. Oddly that is always the presentation, but it just is not true. The vast majority of Americans are just oblivious.

@Zizzla_Rachet

My point being this if the Japanese are not critical of this advertising. Then what right do people who this advertising is not aimed at have to complain. Whether the bitching is justified is aside from the point. Which is that we are not the ones that should be bitching period.
