Forums - Nintendo - Thre needs to be an asterik by Wii Sports Numbers.

It's great to wake up in the morning and see one of these threads.

I'm personally tired of this.. "I THINK THIS GAME IS BAD, THEREFORE EVERYONE IN THE WORLD MUST THINK THIS GAME, AND IT WOULDN'T BE SELLING THE WAY IT IS IF IT WASN'T BUNDLED"

You know what, it must likely wouldn't be selling numbers to wait it has if it wasn't bundled but guess what? It is.. and nothing you can say can make it any less true.

Hell, why don't we put an asterik on EVERY bundle game and put an annotation saying This game was bundled and shouldn't count because it was bundled.  I'm sure you'd piss off alot of people that way..

Pixel Art can be fun.

When you look at Wii, sure Wii Sports was in the box, but the first reason to buy the console was Zelda: Twilight Princess Wii Sports, then Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros., Wii Fit, and Mario Kart Wii, and while these other games were responsible for Wii sales Wii Sports was just riding helping along in the box and being given sales numbers it probably hadn't earned deserved.

Now that post I just fix'd above is more correct.

Do you seriously believe that if you could walk into an old police phone booth and take a trip back to November 2006 that if you were to stand outside a gamestore and ask people that were going in the store to purchase a Wii that more of them would list Wii Sports as the reason they were purchasing the system than The Legend of Zelda:  Twilight Princess?

Eh? I actually didn't purchase any games when I bought my Wii last year. I played Wii Sports 2 weeks straight with my family and then purchased Super Mario Galaxy after.

Your missing the whole concept that Wii Sports wasn't just a stupid-dumb game, it was a game that helped first time buyers understand the Wii controls and the concept helped many. Even to this day new Wii owners are still buying this game because its an awesome introductory game to the Wii.

How many times do I have to say "Wii Sports is an introductory game to the Wii" for you to get a understanding of the reason for Wii Sports?

There are a lot of bundled games that shouldn't count.  Combat didn't have much to do with the sales of the Atari 2600.  It's always been debatable how much Tetris had to do with sales of the original Gameboy.  There are only a handful of bundled games that would have sold as well unbundled including Super Mario Bros., Super Mario World, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

It might be an introductory game for the Wii, but it also sounds like Super Mario Galaxy also had something to do with your purchase of a Wii.

So your measure of quality is the determining factor in how much a game's sales should count if they're bundled..

No thanks.

I think my measure of quality here is how much these games would sell if they weren't bundled.

Each week Wii Sports and Wii consoles are almost always listed as having the same number of sales.  For example, they are both listed as having 106,263 sales in the Americas this week simply because for every Wii sold there is one copy of Wii Sports in the box.  However, unlike Super Mario Bros. (which was a much higher quality game that really did propel post-crash sales in the 8-bit era as it did stand head and shoulders above every game on the market then), Wii Sports just isn't that good (if you look at SMBs review scores in its time you will always see it rated among the very best games which isn't the case with Wii Sports today).

An asterik needs to be by the Wii Sports numbers because not everyone that purchases a Wii is doing so to play Wii Sports.

Hahaha

There are plenty of good games that fail to sell.

Likewise there are plenty of bad games that sell millions.

So subjective notion of quality =/= sales "if it wasn't bundled"

@txrattlesnake

Either your using this thread to get $vg or your trying to make a pointless argument across. Fact is Super Mario Galaxy wasn't the reason I bought the Wii. The Wii was new. I seen that Wii Sports was bundled and look behold, I'm playing that game 2 weeks straight and enjoying every piece of it. Soon the game gets pretty old and guess what? I buy new games to keep my interest for the console going.

Now your the one getting off topic, you specifically agreed somewhat to my statement on Wii Sports is an introductory game to the Wii. Just go along with it. I'm tired of arguing over a concept that has been discussed on this topic for awhile. I guess it's a ritual for some every so often, annoyed gamer to bring this topic up.
