Forums - Gaming Discussion - TGS Square Enix rumours?

No offense, shams, but I don't know as Square Enix would announce the non-Sony-exclusivity of all of their Sony games at the same time Sony is trying to get them all hyped and sold...would at LEAST wait a few weeks after the show ends, if it happens at all.....which I kind of doubt.....spinoffs maybe....but not the main series.

You miss the point.

SquareEnix don't give a damn about a Sony. They are separate companies. SE just care about their profits and titles. It would be insanity for them to pursue a PS3-centric development philosophy at this stage - nor would it make any sense.

You saw what happened with the Last Remnant. Wait till that gets released in the US, and sales of it on the 360 more than double sales of it on the PS3 (thanks to install base, if not more).

I'm 95% certain that FF XIII + Versus will not only get a release on the 360 - it will get a simultanous release on the PS3/360. It makes business sense, it makes development sense and it makes financial sense.

The only people that are against this are essentially Sony & Sony fanboys. PS3 owners get to play it anyway, so why would they care if it came to the 360 as well? PS3 owners should be indifferent, and 360 owners should be the excited ones... right?

...

And I wouldn't hold out too much hope of Sony "bribing" SE to remain PS3 exclusive. If it comes down to a bidding war between MS & Sony, I know who my money is on...

They are separate companies, but they have a long standing alliance, and I didn't say none of them would come out for other systems. I have no doubt that spin-offs of all kinds and maybe even a port of FFXIII will appear on the 36 and other systems in the future. It would probably hurt PS3 sales at this stage, because no one with a 360 is going to say, "Hey, I'm going to get a PS3 so I can play that game on it that will also be out in 6 months for my 360." and everyone else will say "I can buy the PS3 or the 360, the 360 is cheaper and it has the same hugely awesome FF games on it the PS3 has, and the 360 is cheaper." I would imagine that Square knows this, and doesn't want to screw with what may be their last chance to rake in some dough on the PS3 without going to other systems, so I think the main FF series will likely, but not definitely, remain on the PS3, at least for the near future. If they experience abysmal sales, sure, they'll probably bring it to the 360.

It is what I fear too,
lot of news game announced at TGS from SE
but, maybe, a lot of multiplateform too

I still hope these games are all exclusives to the PS3.
Since these games will be released later, when the users base will be bigger, it makes sense.

Time to Work !

@shams

whatever makes you sleep buddy

BTW
Star Ocean is a BIG SELLER only in JAPAN

so there's no point of 360/Ps3 on that one

so your argument phails

@darth
No, no it's not. Really, do some bloody research. The last one sold ~500k in Japan, which is respectable, but not even close to being a BIG SELLER. On the other hand, it was (I BELIEVE) the best selling non-FF/MarioRPG/Pokemon/ Kingdom Hearts jRPGs in the US EVER at 750k (no really, the jRPG market doesn't matter that much in the US. complete bullshit perpetrated by internet fools).

But doesn't sony own any stocks from SE? If so how much? And would it matter? I mean can Sony threaten SE by telling them by selling stocks or something.

wow, thank you shams, at least one reasonable person in this thread

Honestly people, which reason has Sony to make these announcements? The only thing I could imagine is that Sony pays for the games.

My bet is:

Star Ocean 4 - X360 and PS3

Kingdom Hearts - One on the DS for sure, the other one on the PSP or on the Wii

FF XIII and versus - maybe PS3 exclusive, maybe also on X360

FF VII possible on all the platforms, more probably PSP than PS3

Star Ocean 4 has been confirmed PS3 exclusive by multiple sites already, so I don't see why it's so unbeleivable that these other games could go PS3 exclusive as well.  Hell, Sony still owns 10% of shares in SE, and i'm sure they've been dishing out even more cash for exclusives, given their desperate situation.

Sony owns part of Square-enix. I Believe it was 19%, correct me if I’m wrong, and I guess this means that a lot of there games must come exclusively to Sony consoles.

Then again, does the Xbox 360 have a large RPG base? The Japanese that own an Xbox 360, are people that have it as an secondary console and Blue Dragon which did get a lot of attention and hype from Microsoft hasn’t sold that well in Europe and USA. The PS2-RPG fans are more than likely to move to the PS3 since most of the big RPG’s from companies like Level-5 are coming exclusively to the PS3.

By the way, Star Ocean IV exclusivity has already been comfirmed and the Last Renmant isn't such big deal (Guess who is making it).

I find it hard to believe SE would push this hard for Sony with the current shape Sony is in. To throw that much money behind a console that's clearly struggling so much wouldn't be a smart business move. Every title from SE announced for the PS3 aside from one DS game?

Could be true, but I don't see why SE would take a chance like that seeing as how consumers have been so hesitant to purchase a PS3. They would be in a much better position to make a decision such as this after the Holiday season where they have a better idea of how hardware sales for the PS3 will go.

I know it's all speculation being a rumor and all, but I just don't see how this could be true. On top of that, where's the FF game that's coming for the Nintendo Wii this year, or early next year? Not a single mention of that? You'd think they'd want to give that some publicity to keep it on the consumers radar.

However, if it is true, bad move for Square.
