Forums - Sony - PS3 Trophies and how they underachieve

Sardauk said:

No matter what angry PS3 owners says, I feel the same way about the trophies system... méh !!

I always dig further with the achievements on the 360... never with the PS3 for some reasons...

... so you guys stop calling the article stupid : He is right by saying it is more a problem about online identity than the trophies system.

If you copy a feature from another system, then do it right.. or don't..

Do it right or dont?    Maybe Microsoft should have stayed away from those Nintendo Miis then. I think you like achievments more because they where the first thing you got use to. Mayb you had the xbox first? I duno...

Completely nonsensical article. I love to laugh at these articles that pretend to be fair but are motivated by jealousy.

Huh? Achievements are more personal? And why the little 360 logo next to the girls pussy?

I think I get it now. What the X-Box lovers are trying to say is that since they pay for online gaming it "feels good" to know that if some chance in hell they meet a chick on live it's cool to have some personal info for her to check out like:

"Hey babe not only am I a total beast at Gears of War but look I'm also a Gemini and I'm fond of death metal and sushi how about you? Let's take our Mii's out for a long walk on the beach."

Personally I think you'd have a better chance surfing Myspace or Facebook or match.com or something. Besides this semi weird point of being more "personal", achievements seem pretty inferior to me.

LOL!! That one made me explode from laugh

Correct to some extent, though towards end it was getting almost ridiculous.

@twes

That's OK that you agree with the article, but does it surprise any of us? I don't see mods post articles like this hardly ever. Everyone on this site also knows you're a ninja 360 fanboy, so it's no surprise you post an article like this about the PS3. Just like you banned me for calling out an anti-PS3 troll in a pro-PS3 discussion. (And he didn't even get a warning, like he never does, cuz he does almost the same thing you do)

Tell me something...what do you LIKE about the PS3? Everything you post about the PS3, while trying your absolute hardest to sound unbiased, is anti-PS3. I think I may remember you saying one good thing about the PS3...ever. Every time you make a discussion thread, it's 90% of the time about something being wrong with some feature or offering of the PS3.

All the exclusives you try, you get on and pick apart and go on and on and on about what's wrong with the game. Every feature the system offers you have a problem with.

I'll get banned for this because he's ninja, though.

While they are pretty much the same thing I personally prefer achievements to trophies.

When I received my first platinum trophy from LBP it felt good, but there seems to be something missing it is just that I can't quite put my finger on it.

I think this may be part of what contributed to me ditching my PS3 for almost 2-months now (one day turning it on to play some LBP by request). When I see someone on my friend's list with 5120GS and I see that I have 5090, trust me, I pop in a game and pass that sucker right up!

Edit - Come to think of it d12 might have a point there. When I get a trophy and hear that "ching" noise it just doesn't have the same effect as "ploop". I like the "ploop".

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I think the biggest issue with trophies is exactly the mentality that has caused Sony to fail this generation, it's all about elitism (ranked trophies). Some may like this, but they are the niche hardcore gamers who need validation to try and prove how good they are. Microsoft's achievements are a good happy medium, a casual gamer who likes playing lots of games at a shallow level can get as many gamer points as a hardcore gamer who completes only a handful games entirely. This will probably piss off the hardcore gamer, but it makes the whole system more accessible to everyone and Nintendo has proved that this is what brings success.

Obviously there are also things like the complete integration with the Live system as it was designed to be that way rather than getting tacked on as an afterthought, but I think you can clearly see the mentality behind the way Sony think in their trophy system. They are yet again catering to the elite minority.

Never argue with idiots
They bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience

Trophies and gamerscore points are the same thing with bronze trophies being worth a point silvers 2 golds 6 and platinums 12. i mean cmon this article is nothing but a lash at ps3 and how it "copied" MS. the trophies are a great way to show how skilled the player of the game is and when u see somebody with a lot of platinums u say "wow he's a gamer" i just don't see that with gamerscore points

i still prefer trophies and the orgasmic sound it makes when you get one
