Forums - Sony - PS3 Trophies and how they underachieve

Squilliam said:
I don't care for trophies, they don't really sit well with how I play games. I usually just look at the achievement list and target a few interesting achievements and set myself a goal. I don't want people to make judgements about how I play my games, if I have too many bronze and not enough gold trophies, and really I haven't even got an idea of where to find the trophy lists whilst with the Xbox 360 games I play they are listed and linked just off the main menu.

You can find trophy list, with description in XBL games menu->trophies submenu. For more specific descriptions and guides, select "search in internet" option from web menu item, and enter game name + "trophy guide" there. First link from the list will provide you with enough information. If you lazy to enter game name, you can triangle game in the menu and select "search game" option. Also you can bookmark the page with trophies desciption using PS3 browser bookmarking, so it will be easily accessed. Still you can not browse during gaming :(, but you can use PC if you have one.

To think about it, the article says nothing about PS3 ability to read trophy guides from Web ... you even can watch video guides and stuff. :)

I am not sure I am correct with english menu items name, since I am using russian one.

I only agree with him when he says that everything feels disconnected; that's the main problem I have with PSN, and the main thing holding it back from being great like Xbox Live. It needs to be kept closer together, and to be more streamlined. Also, syncing trophies is ridiculous. Are you telling me that the Cell processor can't run a simple command like adding to my trophy count while I am playing a game?

I have the same feeling... it feels disconnected...

On the other hand, mandatory achievements rules (from MS) sometimes prevent some creativities like the emblems and figurines in MGS4.

The achievements system works better in general...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

I kinda disagree.
PS3 has platinum trophies which allow you quickly to see if someone actually completes games whereas you can have a high gamerscore by just playing countless Xbox360 games and never go far into any of them...(ie : farming the easy stuff..). Due to that a high gamer score sometime doesn't reflect at all how good a gamer someone is..
Seeing how many gold or platinum trophies someone has give you an idea of how good a gamer is at least...

To sum it up I can actually understand how an underachiever that plays a lot of games would prefer achiements to trophies ( *winks at the original author of the article*).

As for loading, I'm not sure what kind of games have loading times exceeding a few seconds, personally when I pop a game I never have to wait more than couple seconds before I can play...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

No matter what angry PS3 owners says, I feel the same way about the trophies system... méh !!

I always dig further with the achievements on the 360... never with the PS3 for some reasons...

... so you guys stop calling the article stupid : He is right by saying it is more a problem about online identity than the trophies system.

If you copy a feature from another system, then do it right.. or don't..

This disconnected feeling you guys getting, is a common feeling when you are get used to something and then trying to use something similar and may be even bettter, but different. You need time to get used to stuff.

The only reasonable complaints the guy has is that it can be somewhat troublesome accessing your Trophies (which is an issue with the ps3's entire interface rather than an issue with Trophies), and that the PSP should have Trophies.

At first yes... but the need is still not coming

You have got only 4 bronze trophies ;). Try to get platinum for KZ2 and I am quite sure, this feeling will start fading.
